This study aims to address the challenge of developing accurate and efficient parking occupancy forecasting models at the city level for autonomous vehicles. Although deep learning techniques have been successfully employed to develop such models for individual parking lots, it is a resource-intensive process that requires significant amounts of time and data for each parking lot. To overcome this challenge, we propose a novel two-step clustering technique that groups parking lots based on their spatiotemporal patterns. By identifying the relevant spatial and temporal characteristics of each parking lot (parking profile) and grouping them accordingly, our approach allows for the development of accurate occupancy forecasting models for a set of parking lots, thereby reducing computational costs and improving model transferability. Our models were built and evaluated using real-time parking data. The obtained correlation rates of 86% for the spatial dimension, 96% for the temporal one, and 92% for both demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in reducing model deployment costs while improving model applicability and transfer learning across parking lots.

The impact of deicer and anti-icer use on plant communities in stormwater detention basins: Characterizing salt stress and phytoremediation potential.

We present the results of a 1-year study that quantified salt levels in stormwater, soils, and plant tissues from 14 stormwater detention basins across Northern VA in an above-average snow year. We characterize (1) the level of salt stress plants experience, (2) the extent to which current plant communities feature salt tolerant species, and (3) the capacity of these species to phytoremediate soils and reduce the impacts of deicer and anti-icer use. Our results suggest that detention basin vegetation experience a range of salt stress levels that depend on drainage area type (roads: moderate to high > parking lots: low to moderate > pervious areas: none).

The content of 39 metals and metalloids (MMs) in submicron road dust (PM fraction) was studied in the traffic zone, residential courtyards with parking lots, and on pedestrian roads in parks in Moscow. The geochemical profiles of PM vary slightly between different types of roads and courtyards but differ significantly from those in parks. In Moscow, compared to other cities worldwide, submicron road dust contains less As, Sb, Mo, Cr, Cd, Sn, Tl, Ca, Rb, La, Y, U, but more Cu, Zn, Co, Fe, Mn, Ti, Zr, Al, V.

Coordinated charging of EV fleets in community parking lots to maximize benefits using a three-stage energy management system.

Sci Rep

Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Diagnostics of Electrical Equipment, Institute of Electrodynamics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Beresteyskiy, 56, Kyiv-57, Kyiv, 03680, Ukraine.

The rapid global adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) necessitates the development of advanced EV charging infrastructure to meet rising energy demands. In particular, community parking lots (CPLs) offer significant opportunities for coordinating EVs' charging. By integrating energy storage systems (ESSs), renewable energy sources (RESs), and building prosumers, substantial reductions in peak load and electricity costs can be achieved, while simultaneously promoting environmental sustainability.

Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO, USA.

Purpose Of Review: Parking is a ubiquitous feature of the built environment, but its implications for public health are under-examined. This narrative review synthesizes literature to describe pathways through which parking may affect population health.

Recent Findings: We begin by contextualizing the issue, outlining key terminology, the sheer scale of land dedicated to parking, and the historical factors that led to this dominant land use.

Using shared-bike orders to investigate the dynamicity of park service radii: Evidence from Shenzhen.

J Environ Manage

December 2024

School of Architecture, Southeast University, 2 Sipailou Road, Nanjing, 210096, Jiangsu, China.

This study offers a novel approach for examining the variations of effective park service radius (PSR) in parks with different sizes (small, medium, and large parks) and temporal conditions (weekday morning-noon (M-N), weekday afternoon-evening (A-E), weekend M-N, and weekend A-E). Using Shenzhen as an example and employing shared-bike order data, a detection tool was developed to identify the effective PSRs of 228 sample parks under different spatiotemporal conditions. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to investigate the variations in PSRs in parks of different sizes and periods and multiple linear regression models were built to investigate the influential mechanisms of PSRs for different sized parks.
