The VILLIN (VLN) protein is an important regulator of the actin cytoskeleton, which orchestrates many developmental processes and participates in various biotic and abiotic responses in plants. Although the gene family and their potential functions have been analyzed in several plants, knowledge of genes in soybeans and legumes remains rather limited. In this study, a total of 35 VLNs were characterized from soybean and five related legumes. Combining with the VLN sequences from other nine land plants, we categorized the gene family into three groups according to phylogenetic relationships. Further detailed analysis of the soybean VLNs indicated that the ten were distributed on 10 of the 20 chromosomes, and their gene structures and protein motifs showed high group specificities. The expression pattern analysis suggested that most are widely expressed in various tissues, but three members have a very high level in seeds. Moreover, we observed that the cis-elements enriched in the promoters of are mainly related to abiotic stresses, hormone signals, and developmental processes. The largest number of cis-elements were associated with light responses, and two , , and were significantly increased under the long light condition. This study not only provides some basic information about the gene family but also provides a good reference for further characterizing the diverse functions of genes in soybeans.

The transport of metabolites across the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM) is crucial for maintaining energy balance and efficient distribution of metabolic intermediates between cellular compartments. Under abiotic stress, mitochondrial function becomes particularly critical, activating complex signaling pathways essential for plant stress responses. These pathways modulate stress-responsive gene expression, influencing key physiological processes such as cell respiration and senescence, helping plants adapt to stress.

Arginine methylation is a common post-translational modification that plays critical roles in many biological processes. However, the existence of arginine demethylases that remove the modification has not been fully established. Here, we report that Myc-induced nuclear antigen 53 (Mina53), a member of the jumonji C (JmjC) protein family, is an arginine demethylase.

Plants possess remarkably durable resistance against non-adapted pathogens in nature. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this resistance remain poorly understood, and it is unclear how the resistance is maintained without coevolution between hosts and the non-adapted pathogens. In this study, we used Phytophthora sojae (Ps), a non-adapted pathogen of N.

BACKGROUND Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare (1: 1 000 000) autosomal dominant congenital skeletal dysplasia characterized by widely patent calvarial sutures, clavicular hypoplasia, supernumerary teeth, and short stature. Only a minority of the cases are diagnosed early after birth. We present another case of proven CCD presenting with typical neonatal phenotype to promote awareness of this rare disorder.

Light and dark biofilm adaptation impacts larval settlement in diverse coral species.

Background: Recovery of degraded coral reefs is reliant upon the recruitment of coral larvae, yet the mechanisms behind coral larval settlement are not well understood, especially for non-acroporid species. Biofilms associated with reef substrates, such as coral rubble or crustose coralline algae, can induce coral larval settlement; however, the specific biochemical cues and the microorganisms that produce them remain largely unknown. Here, we assessed larval settlement responses in five non-acroporid broadcast-spawning coral species in the families Merulinidae, Lobophyllidae and Poritidae to biofilms developed in aquaria for either one or two months under light and dark treatments.
