: This study aims to show the clinical outcomes of implants supporting mandibular overdentures in edentulous patients. : Mandibular edentulous patients were diagnosed with an oral examination, panoramic radiograph, and diagnostic casts for intermaxillary relations and treated with overdentures over two implants. After two-stage surgery, implants were early loaded with an overdenture at 6 weeks. Fifty-four patients (28 females and 24 males) were treated with 108 implants. Thirty-two patients (59.2%) had a previous history of periodontitis. Twenty-three patients (46%) were smokers. Forty patients (74.1%) suffered from systemic diseases (i.e., diabetes, cardiovascular diseases). The clinical follow-up of the study was 147.8 ± 10.4 months. The clinical outcomes showed a global success of 94.5% of implants. Fifty-four overdentures were placed in the patients over the implants. The mean marginal bone loss was 1.12 ± 0.34 mm. Nineteen patients (35.2%) showed some kind of mechanical prosthodontic complication. Sixteen implants (14.8%) were associated with peri-implantitis. Based on the clinical results obtained, we can determine that the treatment of elderly edentulous patients with mandibular overdentures through the early loading of two placed implants is a successful implant protocol.

Fibrous dysplasia in the alveolar crest of edentulous site and the curettage for future implant placement: a case report.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Department of Oral Implantology, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Guangdong Engineering Research Center of Oral Restoration and Reconstruction & Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Basic and Applied Research of Oral Regenerative Medicine, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, 510182, China.

Background: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a self-limiting benign disease with slow progression in which the normal bone is replaced by dysplastic fibrous tissue. The craniofacial skeleton is one of the most commonly affected areas, and it can create unique challenges in dental implant therapy. This case aims to report an unusual presentation of FD localized in the alveolar crest bone of the edentulous site, causing special obstacles to implant placement, and provide a diagnostic and treatment process that may be referenced.

This study assessed the accuracy of robotic computer-aided implant surgery (rCAIS) in partially edentulous patients using a standard operation procedure. Patients who underwent implant placement surgeries using the robotic system under a standard operation procedure were recruited. Deviations of dental implants were calculated after superimposition of the preoperative and postoperative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images.

Agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors: Bone formation by orthodontic tooth movement and long-term stability of the edentulous alveolar ridge at 12-15 years after treatment.

Am J Orthod Dentofacial Orthop

Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic; Department of Dentistry, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the General University Hospital, Prague, Czech Republic. Electronic address:

Introduction: The primary aim of this study was to assess the amount and long-term stability of orthodontically created bone in patients with agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors after canine distalization. The secondary aim was to explore the impact of patient age on the process of alveolar bone resorption.

Methods: A group of patients with agenesis of the maxillary permanent lateral incisor was examined at 4 time points: the beginning of orthodontic treatment (T1, n = 80), the end of treatment (T2, n = 80), 2-5 years after treatment (T3, n = 79), and 12-15 years after treatment (T4, n = 32).

Background: The present study aims to evaluate a three-dimensional (3D) changes in the crestal bone levels (buccally, lingually/palatally, mesially, and distally) and in the thickness of keratinized tissue around single or multiple implants using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) after 1 year.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-eight implants were placed in the posterior load-bearing areas in 10 patients. The crestal bone levels and the thickness of keratinized tissue surrounding the edentulous area were assessed preoperatively, immediately after implant placement, and 1 year after implant placement using CBCT (3D imaging technique with DICOM software (Carestream Health, Rochester, NY)).
