High-entropy alloy (HEA) is a new type of multi-principal alloy material and the Hf-Nb-Ta-Ti-Zr HEAs have attracted more and more attention from researchers due to their high melting point, special plasticity, and excellent corrosion resistance. In this paper, in order to reduce the density of the alloy and maintain the strength of the Hf-Nb-Ta-Ti-Zr HEAs, the effects of high-density elements Hf and Ta on the properties of HEAs were explored for the first time based on molecular dynamics simulations. A low-density and high-strength HfNbTaTiZr HEA suitable for laser melting deposition was designed and formed. Studies have shown that the decrease in the proportion of Ta element reduces the strength of HEA, while the decrease in Hf element increases the strength of HEA. The simultaneous decrease in the ratio of Hf and Ta elements reduces the elastic modulus and strength of HEA and leads to the coarsening of the alloy microstructure. The application of laser melting deposition (LMD) technology refines the grains and effectively solves the coarsening problem. Compared with the as-cast state, the as-deposited HfNbTaTiZr HEA obtained by LMD forming has obvious grain refinement (from 300 μm to 20-80 μm). At the same time, compared with the as-cast HfNbTaTiZr HEA (σ = 730 ± 23 MPa), the as-deposited HfNbTaTiZr HEA has higher strength (σ = 925 ± 9 MPa), which is similar to the as-cast equiatomic ratio HfNbTaTiZr HEA (σ = 970 ± 15 MPa).

The recent trend of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) was studied extensively for their promising mechanical properties, but individual constituents' effects have remained unexplored. In this work, the effects of changing the percentage of elements of HfNbTaTiZr-HEA on the mechanical properties were analyzed during uniaxial tension using molecular dynamics simulation. The tensile strength and modulus of elastic properties of the samples were analyzed.

HfNbTaTiZr high-entropy alloy has wide application prospects as a biomedical material, and the use of laser additive manufacturing can solve the forming problems faced by the alloy. In view of the characteristics of the one-time forming of additive manufacturing methods, it is necessary to develop non-mechanical processing modification methods. In this paper, deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) is first applied to the modification of a HEA with BCC structure, then the post-processing method of DCT is combined with laser melting deposition (LMD) technology to successfully realize the coordinated improvement of forming and strength-ductility synergistic improvement in lightweight HfNbTaTiZr alloy.

The aim of the present paper is to investigate an innovative high corrosion resistance coating realized by electrospark deposition. The coating material was fabricated from HfNbTaTiZr high-entropy alloy. HEA was produced by the mechanical alloying of Hf, Nb, Ta, Ti, and Zr high-purity powders in a planetary ball mill, achieving a good homogenization and a high alloying degree, followed by spark plasma sintering consolidation.
