Bacterial-fungal interactions (BFIs) are important in ecosystem dynamics, especially within the soil rhizosphere. The bacterium SQR9 and the fungus NJAU 4742 have gathered considerable attention due to their roles in promoting plant growth and protecting their host against pathogens. In this study, we utilized these two model microorganisms to investigate BFIs.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) refers to pure oxygen with a pressure greater than 1 atmospheres absolute (ATA), and when the pressure is too high, it can cause convulsive attacks. Adenosine and dopamine have been shown to be closely associated with HBO-induced convulsion seizures, and their receptors exhibited a coexisting relationship of mutual antagonism on the membrane of nerve cells. We explored the influence of adenosine and dopamine interplay on the occurrence of oxygen convulsion.

Negative allosteric modulation of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) by Na ions was first described in the 1970s for opioid receptors (ORs) and has subsequently been detected for most class A GPCRs. In high-resolution structures of inactive-state class A GPCRs, a Na ion binds to a conserved pocket near residue D2.50, whereas active-state structures of GPCRs are incompatible with Na binding.

Cancer initiation and progression result from genetic and epigenetic alterations caused by interactions between environmental and endogenous factors leading to aberrant cell signalling. Colorectal cancers (CRC) are linked to abnormal activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, whose key feature is the nuclear accumulation of acetylated β-catenin in colon epithelial cells. Nuclear β-catenin acts as a transcriptional co-activator, targeting genes involved in cell proliferation and invasion.

In mammals, 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2)-deposited histone 3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) are generally mutually exclusive at CpG-rich regions. As mouse embryonic stem cells exit the naive pluripotent state, there is massive gain of 5mC concomitantly with restriction of broad H3K27me3 to 5mC-free, CpG-rich regions. To formally assess how 5mC shapes the H3K27me3 landscape, we profiled the epigenome of naive and differentiated cells in the presence and absence of the DNA methylation machinery.
