Study Design: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Objective: This study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of surgical and endovascular treatments for SDAVFs.

Summary Of Background Data: Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (SDAVFs) result from an abnormal connection between the radiculomeningeal artery and the radicular vein, leading to venous hypertension and potential neurological damage.

Comparison of Post-auricular Soft Tissue and Post-auricular Soft Tissue With Autologous Bone Pate in Obliteration of the Canal Wall Down Mastoidectomy Cavity.

Cureus

December 2024

Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar, IND.

Background The surgical management of chronic otitis media (COM) with squamous disease is canal wall down mastoidectomy (CWDM). Canal wall down procedures require the obliteration of the newly formed cavity to mitigate complications. Soft tissue flaps, including Rambo flap, Hong Kong flap, Palva flap, and inferior-based fascio-periosteal flap, as well as autologous bone pâté, have been the most successful and commonly used materials for obliteration over the past two decades.

Tunneled Pleural Catheters: An Effective Nonsurgical Alternative for Nonexpandable Lung in Chronic Pleural Infection.

J Bronchology Interv Pulmonol

January 2025

Division of Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.

Background: Open window thoracostomy (OTW) is the standard of care for debilitated patients with chronic pleural infection and nonexpandable lungs (NEL) who are not candidates for major surgical intervention. Tunneled pleural catheters (TPC) offer tremendous treatment potential in this setting based on their efficacy in malignant pleural effusion and NEL. We aim to assess the efficacy, safety, and health care utilization of TPC in this setting.

Pulp chamber and root canal obliteration (PCO/RCO) presents a challenge for clinicians when nonsurgical endodontic treatment is indicated. Guided endodontics (GE) aims to precisely locate the root canal (RC) system while preserving as much pericervical dentin as possible. GE involves integrating cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of the affected tooth with a digital impression of the maxillary/mandibular arch, allowing for careful planning of the drilling path to the RC system through a three-dimensional (3D) static guide.

Arteriovenous fistulas of the filum terminale are rare vascular malformations that predominantly affect males and can present with various neurological symptoms. In this study, we indexed previously published cases of filum terminale arteriovenous fistulas demonstrating that endovascular and microsurgical management are both proven to be appropriate and successful treatment modalities with low complication rates. Endovascular treatment is far less invasive; however, it is associated with higher failure rates, which need to be managed surgically.
