Neocaridina denticulata sinensis is a crustacean of major economic significance in the Baiyangdian drainage area. In this study, the first assessment of N. denticulata sinensis genetic diversity and population structure was performed based on sequence analysis of nine polymorphic microsatellite loci and the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (cox1) gene. Samples (n = 192) were collected from four different regions in the Baiyangdian drainage area i.e., Baiyangdian Lake, Jumahe River, Xidayang Reservoir, and Fuhe River. Microsatellite loci analysis identified high levels of genetic diversity represented by observed heterozygosity (Ho) of 0.6865 ∼ 0.9583, expected heterozygosity (He) of 0.7151 ∼ 0.8723, and polymorphism information content (PIC) of 0.6676 ∼ 0.8585. Based on the analysis of cox1 sequences, haplotype diversity (Hd) ranged from 0.568 to 0.853 while nucleotide diversity (π) ranged from 0.0029 to 0.2236. Furthermore, there was no evidence of expansion events in the N. denticulata sinensis populations. Pairwise F revealed pronounced genetic differentiation, and clustering analyses showed defined genetic structures within the N. denticulata sinensis population. Three groups were identified from four sampled stocks, with Xidayang Reservoir, and Fuhe River populations clustered in the same group. This work identified novel molecular markers and provided an important reference to guide management strategies to assist conservation of N. denticulata sinensis resources.

Farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPPS) is a key enzyme in the terpenoid biosynthesis pathway, responsible for converting isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate (DMAPP) into farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP). In crustaceans, FPPS plays an important role in various physiological processes, particularly in synthesizing the crustacean-specific hormone methyl farnesoate (MF). This study analyzed the evolutionary differences in the physicochemical properties, subcellular localization, gene structure, and motif composition of FPPS in (named NdFPPS) compared to other species.

This study investigates an L-type lectin, NdLTL1, derived from Neocaridina denticulata sinensis, emphasizing its role in immune defense through carbohydrate binding and bacterial agglutination. Bioinformatics analysis identified 179 lectin sequences, leading to subsequent investigations into the structure and function of NdLTL1. The open reading frame (ORF) of NdLTL1 spans 966 bp and encodes a protein consisting of 321 amino acids (36.

The genus , originating from East Asia and representing a small-size landlocked shrimp group of the family Atyidae, is an important group of ornamental shrimps and plays significant ecological roles in their natural habitats. Owing to the considerable variability of the taxonomic characters it employed, is constantly under revision, and the validation of several species is currently questionable. In the present study, several shrimps were collected from the Baiyangdian drainage area.

Trehalase plays an important role in insect metabolism and development by hydrolyzing blood sugar trehalose, but it seems to perform primarily an immunomodulatory function in crustaceans whose blood sugar is glucose. Metal ions as pollutants seriously affecting crustacean health, but studies on trehalase in metal immunity are still limited. In this study, a soluble trehalase (NdTre1) that could bind to multiple metals was identified from Neocaridina denticulata sinensis for investigating metal resistance.

Gustavus, a positive regulator in arthropod reproduction, features a conserved SPRY and a C-terminal SOCS box domain and belongs to the SPSB protein family. The SPSB family, encompassing SPSB1 to SPSB4, plays pivotal roles in higher animals, including immune response, apoptosis, growth, and stress responses. In Neocaridina denticulata sinensis, alternative splicing yielded two NdGustavus isoforms, NdGusX1 and NdGusX2, with distinct expression patterns-high in ovaries and muscles, respectively, and across all ovarian germ cells.
