The low ionic conductivity and Li transference number ( ) of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) seriously hinder their application in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In this study, a novel single-ion lithium-rich imidazole anionic porous aromatic framework (PAF-220-Li) is designed. The abundant pores in PAF-220-Li are conducive to the Li transfer. Imidazole anion has low binding force with Li . The conjugation of imidazole and benzene ring can further reduce the binding energy between Li and anions. Thus, only Li moved freely in the SPEs, remarkably reducing the concentration polarization and inhibiting lithium dendrite growth. PAF-220-quasi-solid polymer electrolyte (PAF-220-QSPE) is prepared through solution casting of Bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide lithium (LiTFSI) infused PAF-220-Li and Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP), and possessed excellent electrochemical performance. The electrochemical property are further improved by preparing all-solid polymer electrolyte (PAF-220-ASPE) via pressing-disc method, which has a high Li conductivity of 0.501 mS cm and of 0.93. The discharge specific capacity at 0.2 C of Li//PAF-220-ASPE//LFP reached 164 mAh g , and the capacity retention rate is 90% after 180 cycles. This study provided a promising strategy for SPE with single-ion PAFs to achieve high-performance solid-state LIBs.

Polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWEs) are a critical technology for efficient hydrogen production to decarbonize fuels and industrial feedstocks. To make hydrogen cost-effective, the overpotentials across the cell need to be decreased and platinum-group metal loading reduced. One overpotential that needs to be better understood is due to mass transport limitations from bubble formation within the porous transport layer (PTL) and anode catalyst layer (ACL), which can lead to a reduction in performance at typical operating current densities.

Zn-air batteries (ZABs) present high energy density and high safety but suffer from low oxygen reaction reversibility and dendrite growth at Zn electrode in alkaline electrolytes. Non-alkaline electrolytes have been considered recently for improving the interfacial processes in ZABs. However, the dynamic evolution and reaction mechanisms regulated by electrolytes at both the positive and Zn negative electrodes remain elusive.

Amphiphilic copolymers of comb-like poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) synthesized by one-pot atom transfer radical polymerization were mixed with lithium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide salt to formulate dry solid polymer electrolytes (DSPE) for semisolid-state Li-ion battery applications. The PEO-type side chain length (EO monomer's number) in the PEGMA macromonomer units was varied, and its influence on the mechanical and electrochemical characteristics was investigated. It was found that the copolymers, due to the presence of PMMA segments, possess viscoelastic behavior and less change in mechanical properties than a PEO homopolymer with 100 kDa molecular weight in the investigated temperature range.

Solid polymer electrolytes have yet to achieve the desired ionic conductivity (>1 mS/cm) near room temperature required for many applications. This target implies the need to reduce the effective energy barriers for ion transport in polymer electrolytes to around 20 kJ/mol. In this work, we combine information extracted from existing experimental results with theoretical calculations to provide insights into ion transport in single-ion conductors (SICs) with a focus on lithium ion SICs.
