The clinical manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection may range from asymptomatic or minor conditions to severe and life-threatening outcomes. The respiratory system is a principal target of the virus and in the majority of cases of severe disease, an acute form of pneumonia develops. Despite concerted global efforts to elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms of COVID-19, the progression of the infection leading to pulmonary damage remains poorly understood.

Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are a heterogenous group of rare monogenic disorders that affect innate or adaptive immunity, resulting in susceptibility to life-threatening infections and autoimmunity. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is a valuable curative option for children with IEI. We conducted a retrospective single-center study on the outcome of HCT in children with IEI.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a complex and heterogeneous cardiac disorder, often complicated by cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition marked by severe cardiac output failure. Managing cardiogenic shock in HCM patients presents unique challenges due to the distinct pathophysiology of the disease, which includes dynamic left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, diastolic dysfunction, and myocardial ischemia. This review discusses current and emerging therapeutic strategies tailored to address the complexities of HCM-associated cardiogenic shock and other diseases with similar pathophysiology that provoke left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.

Background: Mucormycosis, is a rare yet potentially life-threatening fungal infection common in immunocompromised patients. Despite optimal care, mucormycosis in haemato-oncological patients often results in poor outcomes. This case series details the presentations and unique challenges faced during the management of patients with acute myeloid leukemia who developed rhino-cerebral mucormycosis.

Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a frequent and potentially life-threatening condition. Even though the disease is common, evidence on CAP management is often of variable quality. This may be reinforced by the lack of a systematic and homogeneous way of defining the disease in randomised controlled trials (RCTs).
