AI Article Synopsis

  • The study focuses on validating the Greek version of the Modified Somatic Awareness Questionnaire (MSPQ-GR) for people with chronic low-back pain.
  • The MSPQ-GR, alongside other relevant questionnaires, was administered to 69 individuals, with reliability and validity assessed through statistical methods.
  • Results showed strong internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha of 0.87) and high reliability (ICC of 0.92), indicating that MSPQ-GR is a potentially useful tool for clinical evaluation of somatic awareness and anxiety in chronic LBP patients.

Article Abstract

Somatic awareness as well as anxiety may be assessed with the Modified Somatic Awareness Questionnaire (MSPQ). The present study validates and adapts the Greek version of the MSPQ (MSPQ-GR) in individuals with chronic low-back pain. The MSPQ-GR along with the Greek versions of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADs-GR) and the Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ-GR) were completed by 69 consecutive individuals suffering from chronic low-back pain. Test-retest reliability was tested 48 hours later. Construct validity was studied with the correlation of MSPQ- GR to the FABQ-GR as well as to the HADs-GR. Analysis included the Pearson's correlation coefficient (r), the Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Most patients were females (82.6%), while the cohort's mean age was 40.2 years. Cronbach's alpha was 0.87 and ICC was found to be 0.92. MSPQ-GR and the HAD-GR anxiety correlation was r=0.36, p=0.002, while MSPQ-GR and HAD-GR depression correlation was r=0.42, p<0.001. Correlation of the MSPQ-GR and FABQ were non-significant (FABQ-work r= 0.19, NS, FABQ physical r= 0.2, NS), confirming the discriminant construct validity of the MSPQ-GR. The present study provided initial evidence for the validity and reliability of the MSPQ-GR and thus, it may be used in clinical practice in patients with chronic LBP.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of Shengyang Yiwei Decoction (SYD) combined with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor(SSRI) antidepressants on the total score and scores of factors of the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD-17) and somatic symptoms in patients with depression.

Methods: This was a retrospective study. One hundred and twenty patients with depression were treated in Hebei Provincial Mental Health Center between December 2020 and May 2022 and randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group, with 60 patients in each group.

Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), or cloning, is used to reprogram cells and generate genetically identical embryos and animals. However, the cloning process is inefficient, limiting its application to producing valuable animals. In swine, cloning is mainly utilized to produce genetically modified animals.

Associations of Serum Urate and Cardiovascular Events in a Clinical Trial of Interleukin-1β Blockade.

JACC Adv

Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Divisions of Preventive Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Background: Serum urate (SU) associates with cardiovascular (CV) events, mortality, and gout.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess whether SU predicts CV risk in a trial of interleukin (IL)-1β inhibition with canakinumab, and whether IL-1β blockade, kidney function, or gout alter these associations.

Methods: This study is a subanalysis of the Canakinumab Antiinflammatory Thrombosis Outcome Study (CANTOS), which randomized 10,061 patients with prior myocardial infarction and elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein to 3 doses of canakinumab or placebo.

Background/objectives: (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a debilitating, incurable neurodegenerative disorder characterised by motor neuron death in the spinal cord, brainstem, and motor cortex. With an incidence rate of about 4.42 cases per 100,000 people annually, ALS severely impacts motor function and quality of life, causing progressive muscle atrophy, spasticity, paralysis, and eventually death.

Background: The perception of Subjective Visual Vertical (SVV) is crucial for postural orientation and significantly reflects an individual's postural control ability, relying on vestibular, visual, and somatic sensory inputs to assess the Earth's gravity line. The neural mechanisms and aging effects on SVV perception, however, remain unclear.

Objective: This study seeks to examine aging-related changes in SVV perception and uncover its neurological underpinnings through functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
