CRISPR/Cas9 gene technology is transported as RNA from transgenic roots to distal parts of unmodified grafted scion, where it is translated into proteins to induce heritable mutagenesis at desired loci. This technique has the potential to produce transgene-free and genetically stable plants in difficult-to-propagate and near-extinct species.

Body checking is a common behavior in both the general population and individuals with body image disturbances. Cognitive-behavioral theories postulate that body checking reduces negative emotions in the short term, but over time contributes to the development and maintenance of eating disorder pathology. So far, few experimental studies have assessed these longer-term consequences, mostly under laboratory conditions, yielding inconsistent findings, and without considering individual vulnerability and specific personality traits.

Vocalizations are one of the key premating reproductive barriers that could affect species formation. In song-learning birds, vocal traits are sometimes overlooked in species delimitation, as compared to morphological or plumage-based differences. In this study, we assessed geographic variation in songs of eight pairs of oscines on two scales: (1) comparing primary songs of species/subspecies pairs whose breeding grounds are eastern and western counterparts of each other in the continental North America, and (2) for each counterpart, identifying and comparing possible variation among their populations.

A common assumption of plant hydraulic physiology is that high hydraulic efficiency must come at the cost of hydraulic safety, generating a trade-off that raises doubts about the possibility of selecting both productive and drought-tolerant herbaceous crops. Wetland plants typically display high productivity, which requires high hydraulic efficiency to sustain transpiration rates coupled to CO uptake. Previous studies have suggested high vulnerability to xylem embolism of different wetland plants, in line with expected trade-offs.

We present a series of articles proving the existence of a previously unknown mechanism of interaction between hematopoietic stem cells and extracellular double-stranded DNA (and, in particular, double-stranded DNA of the peripheral bloodstream), which explains the possibility of emergence and fixation of genetic information contained in double-stranded DNA of extracellular origin in hematopoietic stem cells. The concept of the possibility of stochastic or targeted changes in the genome of hematopoietic stem cells is formulated based on the discovery of new, previously unknown biological properties of poorly differentiated hematopoietic precursors. The main provisions of the concept are as follows.

Reproduction traits are important factors determining the efficiency of any sheep production system. This study evaluates the age at first lambing (AFL), lambing interval (LI), litter weight at birth (LBWT), litter weight at weaning (LWWT), birth weight of ewe (EBWT) and weaning weight of ewes (EWWT) in a crossbreeding program between the Red Maasai (RRRR) and Dorper sheep and their crosses, 75% Dorper and 50% Dorper (DDRR) breeds. All the traits significantly (P < 0.
