To improve survival during storage and exposure to adverse conditions, was microencapsulated with oat β-glucan by spray-drying technology. The characterisation of the microcapsules was designed to compare free and microencapsulated cells through exposure to simulated gastric fluids (SGF) throughout storage for 90 days at different temperatures. The characterisation included analysis of efficiency, morphology, moisture, water activity, hygroscopicity, particle size, and zeta potential. The microcapsules presented a particle size of 1.5 ± 0.34 μm and an encapsulation efficiency of 77.9 ± 3.06%. After SGF, the survival of microencapsulated cells was 8.4 ± 0.07 log CFU mL while that of free cells was 7.6 ± 0.06 log CFU mL. After 90 days of storage, only microencapsulated cells remained above 6 log-unit of viability. In conclusion, spray-drying technique combined with the addition of oat β-glucan proved to be an efficient method to protect under storage and SGF with potential application in fish feed.

Crop rotation effects on the population density of soybean soilborne pathogens under no-till cropping system.

Plant Dis

January 2025

USDA-ARS North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory, Brookings, South Dakota, United States;

Soilborne diseases are persistent problems in soybean production. Long-term crop rotation can contribute to soilborne disease management. However, the response of soilborne pathogens to crop rotation is inconsistent, and rotation efficacy is highly variable.

Background: Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) is the most effective intervention for opioid use disorder (OUD), but retention has decreased due to increasingly potent drugs like fentanyl. This cohort can be used retrospectively to observe trends in service utilization, healthcare integration, healthcare costs and patient outcomes. It also facilitates the design of observational studies to mimic a prospective design.

Study Hypothesis: Use of opioids for treatment of headache in the emergency department (ED) is associated with an increased 1-year risk of opioid-related adverse events.

Objective: To assess the safety and efficacy of opioid prescribing for ED patients with headache.

Methods: We performed a multicenter observational cohort study using linked administrative data.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of selected plant additives on changes in the content of fatty acids, lipid quality indicators and mineral composition of yogurts produced from cow's milk. The analysis included natural yogurts and yogurts enriched with 10% of chia seeds, hulled hemp seeds, quinoa seeds and oat bran. The fatty acid composition, the content of lipid quality indicators and the content of mineral components was varied in all analyzed yogurts.

Precision of Fungal Resistance Test Method for Cereal Husk-Reinforced Composite Construction Profiles Considering Mycelium Removal Techniques.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Construction Materials Engineering Department, Instytut Techniki Budowlanej, 00-611 Warsaw, Poland.

Many test methods used in the assessment of construction products are characterised by poor precision, which is reflected in the discrepancies of results obtained by different laboratories. The test procedure for fungal resistance of natural particle-reinforced composite construction profiles has not been fully specified, which may lead to such discrepancies and erroneous utility assessment. In this study, the precision of the method and the influence of the mycelium removal on the fungal resistance were assessed based on the flexural strength and modulus of elasticity test results obtained for millet- and oat husk-reinforced PVC composites exposed to .
