Background And Aims: Propofol is a commonly used sedative agent, in a dose of 1.5-4.5 mg.kg.h. Following liver transplantation (LT), drug metabolism may be altered due to liver mass, altered hepatic blood flow, reduced levels of serum proteins, and liver regeneration. Thus, we hypothesized that propofol requirements in this group of patients would be different as compared to the standard dose. This study evaluated the dose of propofol used for sedation in electively ventilated living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) recipients.
Material And Methods: After patients were shifted to the postoperative intensive care unit (ICU) following LDLT surgery, propofol infusion was started at a dose of 1 mg.kg.h and titrated to maintain a bispectral index (BIS) value of 60-80. No other sedatives such as opioids or benzodiazepines were used. Dose of propofol, noradrenaline, and arterial lactate levels were noted 2 hourly.
Results: The mean propofol dose required in these patients was 1.02 ± 0.26 mg.kg.h. Noradrenaline was gradually tapered off and stopped within 14 h of shifting to ICU. The mean duration between the time of cessation of propofol infusion till extubation was 2.06 ± 1.44 h. Propofol dose did not correlate with respective lactate levels, ammonia levels, or graft-to-recipient weight ratio.
Conclusion: The dose range of propofol required for postoperative sedation in LDLT recipients was lower than the conventional dose.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of dexmedetomidine, midazolam, propofol, and intralipid on lidocaine-induced cardiotoxicity and neurotoxicity.
Methods: Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups (n = 8 per group): control (C), lidocaine (L), lidocaine + dexmedetomidine (LD), lidocaine + midazolam (LM), lidocaine + propofol (LP), and lidocaine + intralipid (LI). Dexmedetomidine (100 µg/kg), midazolam (4 mg/kg), propofol (40 mg/kg), and intralipid (10 mg/kg) were administered intraperitoneally as pretreatment.

Objective: We investigated the mechanism of Dexmedetomidine (Dex) in infant rats with brain injury.
Methods: The infant rats underwent brain injury modelling. The motor function, spatial learning and memory abilities in rats, and the hippocampal CA1 region Nissl body level and apoptosis were evaluated by behavioural tests and histological stainings.

Awake craniotomy (AC) facilitates real-time brain mapping, maximizing tumor resection while preserving critical neurological functions. This study systematically reviews the efficacy of several anesthetic protocols under Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) during AC, focusing on clinical outcomes. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted using data from observational studies and randomized trials involving AC under MAC.

Background: Emergence agitation (EA) occurs in preschool children after ophthalmic surgery as eye shields induce visual disturbance. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of light-transmitting eye shields as an alternative to traditional medical gauze eye shields for wound dressing in terms of EA incidence following strabismus surgery.
Methods: We randomly assigned 70 preschool children undergoing bilateral strabismus surgery to receive either light-transmitting (LT group, n = 35) or medical gauze (MG group, n = 35) eye shields upon the completion of surgery.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether pretreatment with gabapentin or alprazolam in cats increases sedation, facilitates intravenous catheter placement (IVCP), or reduces propofol requirements for intubation compared to placebo.
Methods: All cats that participated in this prospective, randomized, blinded, controlled clinical trial were admitted for elective ovariohysterectomy at a veterinary teaching hospital from 2022 to 2023. The cats were healthy, were ≥ 6 months old, and weighed > 3 kg.
