The oriental fruit fly, , is a damaging insect pest for many vegetable and fruit crops that has evolved severe chemical insecticide resistance, including organophosphorus, neonicotinoid, pyrethroid, and macrolides. Hence, it is important to elucidate its detoxification mechanism to improve its management and mitigate resource destruction. Glutathione -transferase (GST) is a critical secondary phase enzyme that plays multiple detoxification functions against xenobiotics. In this study, we identified several BdGSTs by characterizing their potential relationships with five insecticides using inducible and tissue-specific expression pattern analyses. We found that an antenna-abundant responded to four different classes of insecticides. Subsequently, our immunohistochemical and immunogold staining analysis further confirmed that BdGSTd8 was primarily located in the antenna. Our investigations also confirmed that BdGSTd8 possesses the capability to enhance cell viability by directly interacting with malathion and chlorpyrifos, which clarified the function of antenna-abundant GST in . Altogether, these findings enrich our understanding of GST molecular characteristics in and provide new insights into the detoxification of superfluous xenobiotics in the insect antenna.

The bagrada bug, Bagrada hilaris (Burmeister), is an emerging agricultural pest in the Americas, threatening agricultural production in the southwestern United States, Mexico and Chile, as well as in the Old World (including Africa, South Asia and, more recently, Mediterranean areas of Europe). Substantive transcriptomic sequence resources for this damaging species would be beneficial towards understanding its capacity for developing insecticide resistance, identifying viruses that may be present throughout its population and identifying genes differentially expressed across life stages that could be exploited for biomolecular pesticide formulations. This study establishes B.

Glutathione S-transferase (GST) has been established to play an important role in regulating the responses of plants to stress, although its function and mechanisms of action in the cadmium (Cd)-tolerant remain unclear. In this study, we sought to identify a Cd-responsive gene from for functional analysis and mechanistic characterization. We accordingly identified a member of the gene family, , which plays a positive role in adaptation of to Cd.

is an obligate intracellular bacterium of eukaryotic cells characterized by a unique biphasic life cycle; its biosynthesis and replication must occur within a cytoplasmic vacuole or inclusion. Certain inclusion membrane proteins have been demonstrated to mediate the interactions between intra-inclusion chlamydial organisms and the host cell. It has been demonstrated previously that the -encoded Cpn0308 localizes to the inclusion membrane; however, its function remains unknown.
