As poultry organ meat is widely consumed, especially in low- and middle-income countries, there is reason to investigate it as a source of infections in humans. Consequently, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, serotypes, virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance of isolated from chicken offal from retail outlets in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Samples ( = 446) were cultured for the detection of using ISO 6579-1:2017. Presumptive were confirmed using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry. isolates were serotyped using the Kauffmann-White-Le Minor scheme and antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion technique. A conventional PCR was used for the detection of , , and virulence genes. Of the 446 offal samples, 13 tested positive for (2.91%; CI = 1.6-5). The serovars included Enteritidis ( = 3/13), . Mbandaka ( = 1/13), Infantis ( = 3/13), . Heidelberg ( = 5/13) and . Typhimurium ( = 1/13). Antimicrobial resistance against amoxicillin, kanamycin, chloramphenicol and oxytetracycline was found only in . Typhimurium and . Mbandaka. All 13 isolates harboured , , and virulence genes. The results show low prevalence from chicken offal. However, most serovars are known zoonotic pathogens, and multi-drug resistance was observed in some isolates. Consequently, chicken offal products need to be treated with caution to avoid zoonotic infections.

Objective: The emergence of resistance-associated substitutions (RASs) poses a significant challenge to the effective treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection using direct-acting antivirals. This study's objective was to observe the prevalence of HCV genotypes and RAS within the Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries.
Methods: We analysed 60 NS3, 313 NS5A and 1119 NS5B sequences of HCV deposited in open-access databases from 11 FSU countries for the prevalence of genotypes and the presence of RAS using the Geno2Pheno software.

Salmonella is an enteric pathogenic bacterium in mammals that thrives in sewage, soil, and aquatic environments because of its wide ecological adaptability. The spread of Salmonella infection is associated with a lack of clean water, poor hygiene, and poor sanitation in developing countries.
