In this Highlights article, we present insights into the use of simple cell lines in neuroinflammation research, highlighting key findings from our recent investigations. Simple cell lines, including HEK, PC12, SHSY5Y, and N2a cells, provide valuable insights into critical signaling pathways and hidden facets of the neuroinflammatory landscape. Focusing on specific outcomes, including the impact of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and acid-sensing ion channels (ASIC1a), the study sheds light on neuroinflammatory processes.

The non-polio Enteroviruses (NPEVs), consist of enteroviruses, coxsackieviruses, echoviruses, and rhinoviruses, are causative agents for a wide variety of diseases, ranging from common cold to encephalitis and acute flaccid paralysis (AFP). In recent years, several NPEVs have become serious public health threats, include EV-A71, which has caused epidemics of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HMFD) in Southeast Asia, and EV-D68, which caused outbreaks of severe respiratory disease in children worldwide. Infections with these viruses are associated with neurological diseases like aseptic meningitis and AFP.

Purpose: Therapeutic options for patients with brain metastases (BM) increase. While these lead to considerable survival effects in subgroups, there is limited knowledge about characteristics, prognosticators and treatment effects in patients with BM and short survival.
Methods: Patients with a survival time of ≤ 6 months (short-term survivors, STS), diagnosed with BM between 2009-2021 at a large tertiary cancer center were analysed.

Chronic pulmonary diseases pose a prominent health threat globally owing to their intricate pathogenesis and lack of effective reversal therapies. Nowadays, lung transplantation stands out as a feasible treatment option for patients with end-stage lung disease. Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD), a hallmark of age-related cognitive decline, is defined by its unique neuropathology. Metabolic dysregulation, particularly involving glutamine (Gln) metabolism, has emerged as a critical but underexplored aspect of AD pathophysiology, representing a significant gap in our current understanding of the disease.
Methods: To investigate the involvement of GlnMgs in AD, we conducted a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis.
