A novel cardiovascular stress biomarker known as galectin-3 might be useful for anticipating adverse cardiovascular outcomes. The objective of the current investigation was to assess the association between serum galectin-3 levels and aortic stiffness (AS) in 196 patients on peritoneal dialysis. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent examination and a cuff-based volumetric displacement were employed to determine the levels of serum galectin-3 and the carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV), respectively. The AS group had 48 patients in total (24.5%) with cfPWV greater than 10 m/s. The AS group, when compared with the group without AS, had a significantly higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension in addition to greater fasting glucose levels, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, and serum galectin-3 levels. Multivariate logistic and linear regression analysis demonstrated that serum glactin-3 levels, in addition to gender and age, were significantly and independently associated with cfPWV and AS. Serum galectin-3 levels were linked with AS, according to a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, with an area under the curve of 0.648 (95% confidence interval, 0.576-0.714; = 0.0018). In summary, there was a significant correlation between serum galectin-3 levels and cfPWV in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis therapy for end-stage kidney disease.

Objectives: Serum galectin-3 (sGal-3) is a protein present in renal tubules and increases in experimental rodent models of acute kidney injury. The aim of this study was to compare sGal-3 concentrations in healthy cats and cats with ureteral obstruction (UO).
Methods: This was a retrospective study.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to explore the relationship among serum levels of the growth-stimulating expressed gene 2 protein (ST2), Galectin-3(GAL-3), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in elderly hypertensive patients and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
Materials And Methods: Eighty-five elderly hypertensive patients with HFpEF were registered as the HFpEF group, and 46 hypertensive patients without HF were registered as the Non-HF group. The levels of serum sST2 (soluble ST2), Galectin-3, and NT-proBNP were measured, and related indexes of heart function were performed with echocardiography in two groups, respectively.

Background: Hypertension is a major cause of cardiac dysfunction. The earliest manifestation is left ventricular remodeling/hypertrophy. The occurrence of adverse cardiac remodeling and outcomes occurs irrespective of age in blacks.

Background/objectives: Fucoidan, a sulfated polysaccharide derived from marine algae, is known for its antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. Galectin-3 (Gal-3), a protein associated with cardiovascular fibrosis, has been identified as a potential therapeutic target in cardiac remodeling. This study aimed to evaluate whether fucoidan could inhibit Gal-3 activity and mitigate cardiac remodeling in a mouse model of pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy.
