AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

In vaccinology, both mRNA-based delivery of genes encoding antigens as well as nanoparticle-based vaccines have shown great promise in tackling challenging pathogens. In this issue of Cell, Hoffmann et al. combine these two approaches, harnessing the same cellular pathway hijacked by many viruses to boost immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

Meiotic recombination is a powerful source of haplotypic diversity, and thus plays an important role in the dynamics of short-term adaptation. However, high-throughput quantitative measurement of recombination parameters is challenging because of the large size of offspring to be genotyped. One of the most efficient approaches for large-scale recombination measurement is to study the segregation of fluorescent markers in gametes.

Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs) are a key interface between virus and host, and these interactions are important to both viral reprogramming of the host and to host restriction of viral infection. In particular, viral-host PPI networks can be used to further our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of tissue specificity, host range, and virulence. At higher scales, viral-host PPI screening could also be used to screen for small-molecule antivirals that interfere with essential viral-host interactions, or to explore how the PPI networks between interacting viral and host genomes co-evolve.

FRET analysis of the unwrapping of nucleosomal DNA containing a sequence characteristic of the + 1 nucleosome.

Sequence-dependent mechanical properties of DNA could play essential roles in nuclear processes by affecting histone-DNA interactions. Previously, we found that the DNA entry site of the first nucleosomes from the transcription start site (+ 1 nucleosome) in budding yeast enriches AA/TT steps, but not the exit site, and the biased presence of AA/TT in the entry site was associated with the transcription levels of yeast genes. Because AA/TT is a rigid dinucleotide step, we considered that AA/TT causes DNA unwrapping.

Introduction And Aim:  Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the enlargement and overgrowth of the prostate leading to the compression of the urethra and resulting in obstruction to the outflow of urine. Prostatic urethral lift (UroLift) is a budding minimally invasive technique that utilises mechanical manipulation of the prostate tissue so that the urethra is free from compression, thereby creating a channel for the outflow of urine. The aim of the audit was to assess the short- to medium-term outcomes in our centre in terms of improvement in symptoms, quality of life (QoL) and complication rates.
