Thermal ablation is a minimally invasive technology used to treat many types of tumors, including lung cancer. Specifically, lung ablation has been increasingly performed for unsurgical fit patients with both early-stage primi-tive lung cancer and pulmonary metastases. Image-guided available techniques include radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, cryoablation, laser ablation and irreversible electroporation. Aim of this review is to illustrate the major thermal ablation modalities, their indications and contraindications, complications, outcomes and notably the possible future challenges.

Silicon carbide (SiC) has significant potential as a third-generation semiconductor material due to its exceptional thermal and electronic properties, yet its high hardness and brittleness make processing costly and complex. This study introduces ultraviolet laser ablation as a method for direct SiC material removal, investigating the effects of varying scanning speeds on surface composition, hardness, and ablation depth. The results indicate optimal processing speeds for the Si and C faces at 200 mm/s and 100 mm/s, respectively.

One class of cosmetic compounds that have raised interest of many experts is peptides. The search for ingredients with good biocompatibility and bioactivity has led to the use of peptides in cosmetic products. Peptides are novel active ingredients that improve collagen synthesis, enhance skin cell proliferation, or decrease inflammation.

Thermal ablation has been widely used for patients with small colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs), even for resectable cases; however, solid evidence has been scarce. Some propensity-score matching studies using patients with balanced baseline characteristics have confirmed less invasiveness and the comparable survival benefits of thermal ablation to liver resection. A more recent pivotal randomized controlled trial comparing thermal ablation and liver resection was presented during the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2024 meeting.

Objectives: Thermal ablation (TA) is an alternative to lobectomy for thyroid nodules (TNs). While it is believed that thyroid function remains stable after TA for cystic TNs, the impact of TA on solid TNs, especially the large ones, is less explored. This study investigates changes in thyroid hormones after TA in patients with solid-predominant TNs and identifies potential risk factors for thyroid dysfunction after TA.
