In this study, extremophile fungal species isolated from pure loparite-containing sands and their tolerance/resistance to the lanthanides Ce and Nd were investigated. The loparite-containing sands were collected at the tailing dumps of an enterprise developing a unique polar deposit of niobium, tantalum and rare-earth elements (REEs) of the cerium group: the Lovozersky Mining and Processing Plant (MPP), located in the center of the Kola Peninsula (northwestern Russia). From the 15 fungal species found at the site, one of the most dominant isolates was identified by molecular analysis as the zygomycete fungus (GenBank accession no. OQ165236). Fungal tolerance/resistance was evaluated using different concentrations of CeCl and NdCl. exhibited a higher degree of tolerance/resistance to cerium and neodymium than did the other dominant isolates (, and ). The fungus began to be inhibited only after being exposed to 100 mg L of NdCl. The toxic effects of Ce were not observed in fungus growth until it was subjected to 500 mg∙L of CeCl. Moreover, only started to grow after extreme treatment with 1000 mg∙L of CeCl one month after inoculation. This work indicates, for the first time, the potential of to remove REEs from the loparite ore tailings, making it a suitable candidate for the development of bioleaching methods.

Prostate cancer frequently metastasizes to bones; however, the detection of metastases can be challenging in rare locations. We present the case of a 76-year-old man with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer with lymph nodal and skeletal metastases who underwent 177Lu-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) therapy. Initial 18F-PSMA PET/CT scan acquired until the midthigh failed to identify metastases in the foot, but posttherapy 177Lu-PSMA scan revealed the presence of metastases in the navicular and cuboid bones of the right foot, which is a very rare finding.

Background Ischemic late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) assessed with cardiac MRI is a well-established prognosticator in ischemic cardiomyopathy. However, the prognostic value of additional LGE parameters, such as extent, transmurality, location, and associated midwall LGE, remains unclear. Purpose To assess the prognostic value of ischemic LGE features to predict all-cause mortality in ischemic cardiomyopathy.

Rare earth elements (REEs) are considered as emerging contaminants due to their use in the fabrication process of current technologies. As such, their aquatic toxicity, especially as a mixture, is not well understood, as it has been scarcely investigated. The purpose of this study was to shed light on the sublethal and lethal toxicity of a realistic mixture of five REE in .

In the era of artificial intelligence and Internet of Things, data storage has an important impact on the future development direction of data analysis. Resistive random-access memory (RRAM) devices are the research hotspot in the era of artificial intelligence and Internet of Things. Perovskite-type rare-earth metal oxides are common functional materials and considered promising candidates for RRAM devices because their interesting electronic properties depend on the interaction between oxygen ions, transition metals, and rare-earth metals.
