Two new glycerolipids, syngaculipids A and B (1 and 2), one first naturally occurring metabolite (8), together with five known compounds (3-7) were isolated from the AcOEt fraction of Syngnathus acus L. (Hai-Long). Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectral analyses involving UV, IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra and ECD calculations. All the isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against A549 and HCT-116 cell lines. Compound 8 exhibited moderate cytotoxicity with IC values of 34.5 and 38.9 μM on the A549 and HCT-116 cell lines, respectively.

The Mediterranean is recognized as a climate change hotspot, with ongoing warming anticipated to impact its habitats and their associated fish fauna. Among these habitats, the seagrass Posidonia oceanica stands out as a foundational species, critical for the stability of coastal fish communities. However, our understanding of climate change consequences on P.

Centre for Ecological Genomics and Wildlife Conservation, University of Johannesburg, Auckland Park 2006, South Africa.

The Critically Endangered South African estuarine pipefish, , is one of the rarest teleost fish on the planet. In this analysed dataset, the complete mitochondrial genome of this species was assembled, annotated, and described. In addition, its evolutionary history was reconstructed in a Maximum Likelihood and a Bayesian framework.

Clinical and Pathological Findings Associated with Mycobacteriosis in Captive Syngnathids.

Animals (Basel)

November 2022

Pathology Group, PASAPTA, Facultad de Veterinaria, Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU, CEU Universities, C/Tirant lo Blanc 7, Alfara del Patriarca, 46115 Valencia, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • Mycobacteriosis affects both captive and wild aquatic fish, particularly syngnathids, leading to a range of symptoms from sudden death to poor health indicators like anorexia and respiratory issues.
  • The study examined 25 syngnathids and identified significant gross lesions, including ulcers and white nodules, mostly affecting organs such as the gills, liver, and intestines.
  • Molecular analysis via real-time PCR detected specific mycobacterial species in 4 to 14 fish, marking the first report of mycobacteriosis in this group of fish.
