The use of gradient descent methods for optimizing k-eigenvalue nuclear systems has been shown to be useful in the past, but the use of k-eigenvalue gradients have proved computationally challenging due to their stochastic nature. ADAM is a gradient descent method that accounts for gradients with a stochastic nature. This analysis uses challenge problems constructed to verify if ADAM is a suitable tool to optimize k-eigenvalue nuclear systems. ADAM is able to successfully optimize nuclear systems using the gradients of k-eigenvalue problems despite their stochastic nature and uncertainty. Furthermore, it is clearly demonstrated that low-compute time, high-variance estimates of the gradient lead to better performance in the optimization challenge problems tested here.

Due to its enormous influence on system functionality, researchers are presently looking into the issue of task scheduling on multiprocessors. Establishing the most advantageous schedules is often regarded as a difficult-to-compute issue. Genetic Algorithm is a recent tool employed by researchers to optimize scheduling tasks and boost performance, although this field of research is yet mostly unexplored.

Azurin, a bacterial blue-copper protein, has garnered significant attention as a potential anticancer drug in recent years. Among twenty Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates, we identified one isolate that demonstrated potent and remarkable azurin synthesis using the VITEK 2 system and 16S rRNA sequencing. The presence of the azurin gene was confirmed in the genomic DNA using specific oligonucleotide primers, and azurin expression was also detected in the synthesized cDNA, which revealed that the azurin expression is active.

Atmospheric wind energization of ocean weather.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY, USA.

Ocean weather comprises vortical and straining mesoscale motions, which play fundamentally different roles in the ocean circulation and climate system. Vorticity determines the movement of major ocean currents and gyres. Strain contributes to frontogenesis and the deformation of water masses, driving much of the mixing and vertical transport in the upper ocean.

Isoform-level expression of the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR or NR1I3) transcription factor better predicts the mRNA expression of the cytochrome P450s in human liver samples.

Drug Metab Dispos

Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research, College of Pharmacy, Center for Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Electronic address:

Many factors cause interperson variability in the activity and expression of the cytochrome P450 (CYP) drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver, leading to variable drug exposure and treatment outcomes. Several liver-enriched transcription factors are associated with CYP expression, with estrogen receptor α (ESR1) and constitutive androstane receptor (CAR or NR1I3) being the 2 top factors. ESR1 and NR1I3 undergo extensive alternative splicing that results in numerous splice isoforms, but how these splice isoforms associate with CYP expression is unknown.

Accurate quantification in emission tomography is essential for internal radiopharmaceutical therapy dosimetry. Mean activity concentration measurements in objects with diameters less than 10 times the full width at half maximum of the imaging system's spatial resolution are significantly affected (>10%) by the partial-volume effect. This study develops a framework for PET and SPECT spatial resolution characterization and proposes 2 MIRD recovery coefficient models-a geometric mean approximation (RECOVER-GM) and an empirical model (RECOVER-EM)-that provide shape-specific partial-volume correction (PVC).
