The synthesis of a novel class of compounds bearing a coumarin entity was targeted. They are either iminocoumarins or characterized by the presence of a pyridone ring fused within the iminocoumarin scaffold. The targeted compounds were synthesized through a short method, thanks to microwave activation. The study evaluated the antifungal activity of 13 newly synthesized compounds against a new fungal strain of . The most active compound showed activity comparable to the widely used reference drug, amphotericin B. The conditions and the ease of synthesis warrant high potential of the method for diversity-oriented synthesis, very useful within the drug discovery area.

Studies show that propolis has antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, and immunomodulatory properties, and may protect against diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. We aimed to extract compounds of brown propolis with hydroalcoholic solvents and evaluate their cytotoxic activity on tumor and non-tumor cells by MTT test. We tested the solute:solvent ratio (ethanol:water) and extraction time in a Shaker incubator (710 rpm) before conducting a central composite rotational design (CCRD) to optimize time and solvent mixture.

Bacterial-fungal interaction (BFI) has significant implications for the health of host plants. While the diffusible antibiotic metabolite-mediated competition in BFI has been extensively characterized, the impact of intercellular contact remains largely elusive. Here, we demonstrate that the intercellular contact is a prevalent mode of interaction between beneficial soil bacteria and pathogenic filamentous fungi.

Particulate matter (PM) exposure has been proposed as one of the causes of steroid resistance. However, studies investigating this using patient samples or animals are still lacking. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the changes in cytokines and mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) activation in patients with steroid resistant asthma and the role of mTOR in a mouse model of steroid resistant asthma induced by PM.

Objective: The rise of drug-resistant bacteria, viruses, and fungi has prompted the search for new drugs without cross-resistance to current treatments. As a result, the aim of this research was to synthesize various types of dihydropyrimidinones heterocyclic compounds and screened them for their antibiotic properties.
Methodology: Newly synthesized dihydropyrimidinone derivatives were characterized spectroscopically using proton NMR (HNMR), and FT-IR.
