Background: Whether there is a multiplicative interaction of lactate/albumin (L/A) ratio and geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) on the mortality of critically ill elderly patients with heart failure (HF) remains unclear.
Hypothesis: To assess the interaction of L/A ratio and GNRI on the all-cause mortality in critically ill elderly patients with HF.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study and data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) database. The endpoints were 28-day and 1-year all-cause mortality, and the independent variables were L/A ratio and GNRI. The multiplicative interaction of L/A ratio and GNRI on the mortality was examined using Cox proportional-hazards model.
Results: A total of 5627 patients were finally included. Results showed that patients with higher L/A ratio or GNRI ≤ 58 had higher risk of 28-day and 1-year all-cause mortality (all p < .01). We also found the significant multiplicative interaction effect between L/A ratio and GNRI score on the 28-day and 1-year all-cause mortality (both p < .05). The increased L/A ratio was associated with higher risk of 28-day and 1-year all-cause mortality in patients with GNRI ≤ 58 than those with GNRI > 58.
Conclusions: There was a multiplicative interaction effect between L/A ratio and GNRI score on the mortality, and low GNRI score was associated with the increased risk of all-cause mortality with the increase of L/A ratio, suggesting the importance of nutrition-oriented intervention in critically ill elderly HF patients with high L/A ratio.

Study Question: To what extent are self-reported diagnoses of food allergies associated with fecundability, the per-cycle probability of conception?
Summary Answer: Fecundability was not appreciably associated with self-reported food allergy diagnoses, number of food allergies, age at first diagnosis, or time since last allergic reaction.
What Is Known Already: Food allergies are atopic diseases that are characterized by an inappropriate immune response to a normally harmless dietary substance. While some studies have observed associations between atopic disorders and infertility, no study has examined the association between food allergies and fecundability, the per-cycle probability of conception.

Background: Cardiac computed tomography (CT) is increasingly used to search for cardioembolic sources of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We assessed the association between high-risk cardioembolic sources on cardiac CT and AIS.
Methods: We performed a case-control study using data from a prospective cohort including consecutive adult patients with suspected stroke who underwent cardiac CT acquired during the initial stroke imaging protocol between 2018 and 2020.

This study examined the chemical composition, including moisture content, total fat, iodine value, melting point, saponification number, differential scanning calorimetry, fatty acid profiles, and color values (L*, a*, b*), in abdominal (A) and subcutaneous (S) fat of 15-week-old geese from three female varieties: Turkish (Lo), Linda (Li), and Mast (Ma). Results showed significantly higher moisture content in Lo-S compared to abdominal fats (P < 0.05), with consistent fat contents among goose varieties in abdominal fats.

Study Question: To what extent is male physical activity (PA) associated with fecundability (per-cycle probability of conception)?
Summary Answer: Preconception levels of vigorous, moderate, or total PA were not consistently associated with fecundability across Danish and North American cohorts, but there was suggestive evidence that bicycling with a 'soft, comfort seat' was associated with reduced fecundability in both cohorts, especially among males with greater BMI.
What Is Known Already: Among males, some studies indicate that moderate PA might improve fertility, whereas vigorous PA, especially bicycling, might be detrimental.
Study Design, Size, Duration: We assessed the association between male PA and fecundability among couples participating in two preconception cohort studies: SnartForaeldre.

Background: Increased blood pressure (BP) variability is linked to dementia risk, but the relationship between baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), a fundamental mechanism for maintaining stable BP, and dementia risk is undetermined.
Methods: We tested the hypothesis that impaired BRS is associated with increased dementia risk in 1819 older adults (63% women; age, 71.0±6.
