Previous studies reported baseline state-dependent effects on neural and hemodynamic responses to transcranial ultrasound stimulation. However, due to neurovascular coupling, neither neural nor hemodynamic baseline alone can fully explain the ultrasound-induced responses. In this study, using a general linear model, we aimed to investigate the roles of both neural and hemodynamic baseline status as well as their interactions in ultrasound-induced responses.

Bacterial genomes have regions known as defence islands that encode diverse systems to protect against phage infection. Although genetic elements that capture and store gene cassettes in Vibrio species, called integrons, are known to play an important role in bacterial adaptation, a role in phage defence had not been defined. Here we combine bioinformatic and molecular techniques to show that the chromosomal integron of Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a hotspot for anti-phage defence genes.

Computational target identification plays a pivotal role in the drug development process. With the significant advancements of deep learning methods for protein structure prediction, the structural coverage of human proteome has increased substantially. This progress inspired the development of the first genome-wide small molecule targets scanning method.

In the past decades, dozens of invasion hypotheses have been proposed to elucidate the invasion mechanisms of exotic species. Among them, the accumulation of local pathogens hypothesis (ALPH) posits that invasive plants can accumulate local generalist pathogens that have more negative effect on native species than on themselves; as a result, invasive plants might gain competitive advantages that eventually lead to their invasion success. However, research on this topic is still quite insufficient.

Blue carbon refers to organic carbon sequestered by oceanic and coastal ecosystems. This stock has gained global attention as a high organic carbon repository relative to other ecosystems. Within blue carbon ecosystems, tidally influenced wetlands alone store a disproportionately higher amount of organic carbon than other blue carbon systems.
