Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, patients with Lyme disease may develop life threatening multi-organ system complications. As such, we discuss the key diagnostic features of the condition along with patient-specific suggested treatment protocols. Additionally, Lyme disease is reportedly expanding to regions that were previously not impacted, key epidemiological features are outlined. We discuss a patient with severe Lyme disease who presented with widespread cutaneous involvement and atypical pathologic findings within an uncharacteristic geographic region. Erythematous, annular patches and plaques with dusky-to-clear centers were initially observed on the right thigh and later extended to the trunk and bilateral lower extremities. The diagnosis of Lyme disease was made clinically and confirmed with western blot testing that was positive for IgM antibodies. The patient additionally had a history of rheumatoid arthritis, for which he discontinued treatment prior to the current presentation with Lyme disease. During follow up visits, the patient noted lower extremity joint pain. Due to the overlapping clinical features of post-Lyme arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, key differences are outlined to prevent misdiagnosis. Data revealing trends in the geographic distribution of the disease and possible need for increased surveillance and prevention strategies within previously unaffected areas are discussed.

Background/objectives: Lyme disease (LD) is a major public health problem in Europe and the United States, with increasing incidence and not many prevention options. Vaccine hesitancy might be a significant barrier to successful vaccination campaigns having in mind previous vaccine development failures. This study aimed to evaluate the public's perception of LD vaccination in Poland, assess willingness to vaccinate, and identify factors influencing vaccination attitudes.

: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections usually cause mild, cold-like symptoms in most people, but are a leading infectious disease causing infant death and hospitalization and can result in increased morbidity and mortality in older adults and at-risk individuals. Pfizer has developed Abrysvo, an unadjuvanted bivalent recombinant protein subunit vaccine containing prefusion-stabilized fusion (F) proteins representing RSV A and RSV B subgroups (RSVpreF). It is the only RSV vaccine approved for both maternal immunization to protect infants and active immunization of older adults (≥60 years) and 18-59-year-old individuals with high-risk conditions for prevention of RSV disease.

The causative agent of Lyme disease, , is endemic to Canada, the northeastern United States, northern California, and temperate European regions. It is rarely associated with a travel-related exposure. In this report, we describe a resident of southern Ontario, Canada who developed rash, fever, and cranial nerve VII and XII palsies following a 12 day trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos islands approximately four weeks prior to referral to our center.

Lyme carditis is an uncommon but potentially fatal manifestation of early disseminated Lyme disease. Timely diagnosis poses a clinical challenge due to the highly variable and non-specific symptomatology that can be easily overlooked, as well as the limited availability of specific and non-invasive diagnostic tests for assessing cardiac involvement. While cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is the standard imaging modality for diagnosing various etiologies of cardiomyopathy, its application in Lyme carditis remains understudied.

Background: Ticks are the primary vectors of numerous zoonotic pathogens, transmitting more pathogens than any other blood-feeding arthropod. In the northern hemisphere, tick-borne disease cases in humans, such as Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis, have risen in recent years, and are a significant burden on public healthcare systems. The spread of these diseases is further reinforced by climate change, which leads to expanding tick habitats.
