As a special kind of supramolecular compound with many favorable properties, pillar[]arene-based supramolecular polymer networks (SPNs) show potential application in many fields. Although we have come a long way using pillar[]arene to prepare SPNs and construct a series of smart materials, it remains a challenge to enhance the mechanical strength of pillar[]arene-based SPNs. To address this issue, a new supramolecular regulation strategy was developed, which could precisely control the preparation of pillar[]arene-based SPN materials with excellent mechanical properties by adjusting the polymer network structures.

Late-Stage Diazoester Installation via Arylthianthrenium Salts.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz 1, 45470, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.

By leveraging the fast oxidative addition of arylthianthrenium salts (aryl-TT) to palladium(0), a regioselective diazoester installation has been developed. This approach enables the introduction of a diazo moiety to densely functionalized arenes at a late stage. The installed diazo group is amenable to facile further derivatization.

Article Synopsis
  • Control of individual atomic spins is essential for advancements in spintronics, quantum sensing, and quantum information processing, with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) being a effective tool for manipulation.
  • The research presents a new method for self-assembling magnetic organometallic complexes using iron atoms and specific molecules (Cu(dbm) and FePc) on a silver substrate, effectively forming complexes that mimic metallocenes.
  • Magnetic properties of these complexes show a notable Kondo effect, which is explained through density functional theory calculations indicating that the interaction between Fe 3d-orbitals and benzene π-orbitals enhances Kondo screening, offering insights for designing hybrid organometallic systems.

Polyurethane Elastomers Strengthened by Pseudo[1]rotaxanes Based on Pillararenes.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

College of Material, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Key Laboratory of Organosilicon Chemistry and Material Technology of Ministry of Education, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou, 311121, P. R. China.

As a unique property of the interlocked structures, rotaxane allows for intramolecular motions between its wheel and axle components. Introduction of rotaxanes into polymers can endow them with distinctive macroscopic features and outstanding mechanical properties. Here, we prepare a copillar[5]arene with a hydroxyl and an amino-group on each end, which can spontaneously form a pseudo[1]rotaxane through intramolecular hydrogen bonds.

Background: We explored preferences around the benefit-risk ratio (BRR) of vaccination among the general adult population and health care sector workers (HCSWs). We estimated preference weights and expected vaccine uptake for different BRR levels for a vaccine recommended during an infectious disease emergence. In addition, we explored how far qualitative information about disease severity, epidemiological context, and indirect protection interacts with these preferences.
