Synthesis, Hole Doping, and Electrical Properties of a Semiconducting Azatriangulene-Based Covalent Organic Framework. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) containing heterotriangulenes have been theoretically identified as semiconductors with tunable, Dirac-cone-like band structures, which are expected to afford high charge-carrier mobilities ideal for next-generation flexible electronics. However, few bulk syntheses of these materials have been reported, and existing synthetic methods provide limited control of network purity and morphology. Here, we report transimination reactions between benzophenone-imine-protected azatriangulenes (OTPA) and benzodithiophene dialdehydes (BDT), which afforded a new semiconducting COF network, OTPA-BDT. The COFs were prepared as both polycrystalline powders and thin films with controlled crystallite orientation. The azatriangulene nodes are readily oxidized to stable radical cations upon exposure to an appropriate -type dopant, tris(4-bromophenyl)ammoniumyl hexachloroantimonate, after which the network's crystallinity and orientation are maintained. Oriented, hole-doped OTPA-BDT COF films exhibit electrical conductivities of up to 1.2 × 10 S cm, which are among the highest reported for imine-linked 2D COFs to date.

Food safety is a pressing global public issue that has garnered significant attention worldwide, especially recent outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. The use of emerging porous materials enables the development of effective and durable detection methods for the detection of food contaminants. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), as a class of emerging porous crystalline materials, rendered with the advantage of large specific surface area, highly controllable and ordered structures, diverse pore structures, high stability, and controllable surface functionalization.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) significantly impacts the well-being of older people around the world. However, the accurate detection of glycosylated amyloid-beta (Aβ) proteins, which serve as important biomarkers for AD, remains challenging due to their extremely low levels. To address these issues, we proposed a method for fabricating a flexible and stable sensor platform based on an innovative boronic acid-based covalent organic framework COF-B(OH).

Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction (NO3RR) is a promising method for pollutant removal and ammonia synthesis and involves the transfer of eight electrons and nine protons. As such, the rational design of catalytic interfaces with enhanced mass transfer is crucial for achieving high ammonia yield rates and Faradaic efficiency (FE). In this work, we incorporated a Cu-bipyridine catalytic interface and fabricated crystalline 2D covalent organic framework films with significantly exposed catalytic sites, leading to improved FE and ammonia yield (FE = 92.

Efficient synthesis of fluorinated triphenylenes with enhanced arene-perfluoroarene interactions in columnar mesophases.

The high potential of non-covalent arene-fluoroarene intermolecular interactions in the design of liquid crystals lies in their ability to strongly promote self-assembly, improve the order and stability of the supramolecular mesophases, and enable tuneability of the optical and electronic properties, which can potentially be exploited for advanced applications in display technologies, photonic devices, sensors, and organic electronics. We recently successfully reported the straightforward synthesis of several mesogens containing four lateral aliphatic chains and derived from the classical triphenylene core self-assembling in columnar mesophases based on this paradigm. These mesogenic compounds were simply obtained in good yields by the nucleophilic substitution (SFAr) of various types of commercially available fluoroarenes with the electrophilic organolithium derivatives 2,2'-dilithio-4,4',5,5'-tetraalkoxy-1,1'-biphenyl (2Li- ).

Covalent Organic Frameworks with Tunable Bridge Positions for Photocatalytic CO Reduction to Propylene Under Visible Light Illumination.

The use of sunlight to convert CO into multi-carbon fuels, particularly propylene, is considered a sustainable carbon cycle pathway, but propylene requires a multi-electron-coupled proton reaction process that has not been reported. Herein, two covalent organic frameworks (DA-COF and DP-COF) are prepared by varying the bridging positions of anthraquinone conjugated units. The experimental results show that the neighbouring bridge in DA-COF forms a unique cleavage structure like an enzyme catalyst, which can provide an efficient microenvironment for the reduction reaction to trap protons.
