Artesunate is an effective and first-line therapy option in patients with severe malaria caused by species. Among adverse effects of the drug is a phenomenon of delayed hemolysis. This usually occurs at least 7 days after initiation of therapy, and is characterized by reductions in hemoglobin and haptoglobin and an increase in lactate dehydrogenase. Here, we report an instance of delayed hemolysis in a patient probably attributed to parenteral artesunate therapy.

Cytokinins are plant hormones that regulate cell growth and differentiation. In particular, zeatin (ZTN) delays cellular senescence of human fibroblasts and keratinocytes and exhibits anticancer activity. Chemotherapy-induced anemia is a major side effect of anticancer therapy secondary to premature senescence of red blood cells (RBCs).

Background: Neonates with congenital anomalies frequently require perioperative allogeneic red blood cell (RBC) transfusion. Whole cord blood for autologous transfusion to neonates may provide an alternative RBC source, but whether sufficient volumes can be collected after delayed cord clamping to reduce allogeneic RBC requirements is unknown.

Study Design And Methods: Inclusion criteria were mothers delivering a viable infant >34 weeks' gestation.

Objectives: Prompt recognition of hyperammonaemia can avoid severe consequences of delayed treatment. Strict sample transport requirements present barriers to requesting and, if not achieved, rejection by the laboratory. Evidence is sparse on ammonia stability from studies using modern techniques or based in clinical settings.

Anti-IH is a common cold agglutinin that is typically clinically insignificant. We present a case that resulted in hemolysis. A 32-year-old male patient with transfusion-independent beta-thalassemia intermedia presented with symptomatic anemia.

In patients presenting with post-malarial anemia following intravenous artesunate treatment, post-artesunate delayed hemolysis should be considered in the differential diagnosis, even in endemic settings. Close monitoring for signs of delayed hemolysis in patients previously treated with intravenous artesunate for severe malaria, regardless of their malaria exposure history or geographic location is crucial.
