Synthetic dataset for visco-acoustic imaging.

We provide computationally generated dataset simulating propagation of ultrasonic waves in viscous tissues in two and three dimensional domains. The dataset contains physical parameters of a human breast with a high-contrast inclusion, the acquisition setup with positions of sources and receivers, and the associated pressure-wave data at ultrasonic frequencies. We simulated the wave propagation based on seven different viscous models using the physical parameters of the breast. Furthermore, different choices of conditions for the medium's boundaries are given, namely absorbing and reflecting boundaries. The dataset allows to evaluate the performance of reconstruction methods for ultrasound imaging under attenuation model uncertainty, that is, when the precise attenuation law that characterizes the medium is unknown. In addition, the dataset enables to evaluate the robustness of inverse scheme in the context of reflecting boundary conditions where multiple reflections illuminate the sample, and/or the performance of data-processing to suppress these multiple reflections.

We analyse mathematical models of blood flow in two simple vascular networks in order to identify structural features that lead to the formation of multiple equilibria. Our models are based on existing rules for blood rheology and haematocrit splitting. By performing bifurcation analysis on these simple network flow models, we identify a link between the changing flow direction in key vessels and the existence of multiple equilibria.

Background: CPAP has been shown to be particularly beneficial in the management of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema by reducing both preload and afterload, thus decreasing the work of breathing and improving oxygenation.

Methods: This study was a prospective observational study, conducted in the period from 2022 to 2024, assessing the effectiveness and safety of prehospital CPAP therapy use in patients with acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema, administered alongside standard care.

Results: In this study, 50 patients with acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema were treated by physician-led emergency teams in the Canton of Sarajevo.
