In patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), the incidence and mortality rate of ESCC in our country are also higher than those in the rest of the world. Despite advances in the treatment department method, patient survival rates have not obviously improved, which often leads to treatment obstruction and cancer repeat. ESCC has special cells called cancer stem-like cells (CSLCs) with self-renewal and differentiation ability, which reflect the development process and prognosis of cancer.

Zebrafish hearts can regenerate by replacing damaged tissue with new cardiomyocytes. Although the steps leading up to the proliferation of surviving cardiomyocytes have been extensively studied, little is known about the mechanisms that control proliferation and redifferentiation to a mature state. We found that the cardiac dyad, a structure that regulates calcium handling and excitation-contraction coupling, played a key role in the redifferentiation process.

A 61-year-old woman with a history of metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma became radioiodine-refractory following two doses of radioiodine (RAI) therapy (cumulative = 230 mCi). Radioactive iodine-refractory metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer (RAIR) is associated with a poor prognosis. Multikinase inhibitors have demonstrated improvement in progression-free but not overall survival in such patients, but usage is limited by significant adverse effects and the development of resistance. Clinical research has demonstrated improvement in progression-free survival with the combined use of the BRAF/MEK inhibitor in patients with metastatic melanoma and anaplastic thyroid cancer with the BRAFmutation and has shown promise in redifferentiation of BRAF-positive RAIR differentiated thyroid cancer.
