Immobilization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on electrospun products for wastewater treatment has garnered considerable attention in recent years. However, the effect of the overall geometry and surface-area-to-volume ratio of MOF-decorated electrospun architectures on their performances have rarely been investigated. Herein, we prepared polycaprolactone (PCL)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) strips with helicoidal geometries via immersion electrospinning. By regulating the weight ratio of PCL to PVP, the morphologies and surface-area-to-volume ratios of the PCL/PVP strips could be controlled precisely. Then, the zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) for removing methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution was immobilized on the electrospun strips, resulting in ZIF-8-decorated PCL/PVP strips. The key characteristics of these composite products, such as adsorption and photocatalytic degradation behavior toward MB in the aqueous solution, were carefully investigated. Owing to the desired overall geometry and high surface-area-to-volume ratio of the ZIF-8-decorated helicoidal strips, a high MB adsorption capacity of 151.6 mg g was obtained, which is significantly higher than those with conventional electrospun straight fibers. In addition, higher MB uptake rates, higher recycling and kinetic adsorption efficiencies, higher MB photocatalytic degradation efficiencies, and faster MB photocatalytic degradation rates were confirmed. This work provides new insights to improve the performance of existing and potential electrospun product-based water treatment strategies.

Self-assembly of amino acids and short-peptide derivatives attracted significant curiosity worldwide due to their unique self-assembly process and wide variety of applications. Amino acid is considered one of the important synthons in supramolecular chemistry. Self-assembly processes and applications of unfunctionalized native amino acids have been less reported in the literature.

Densities and viscosities of aqueous 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP)/piperazine (PZ) solutions with and without CO are measured from 20 to 80 °C at ambient pressure. Redlich-Kister-based correlations are proposed for the excess molar volumes and viscosity deviation of the binary and ternary mixtures. Empirical correlations are developed to quantitatively describe the effect of CO on the density and viscosity of the aqueous AMP/PZ solutions.

It is widely believed that the aggregation of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides into soluble oligomers is the root cause behind Alzheimer's disease. In this study, we have performed room-temperature molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of aggregated Aβ oligomers of different sizes (pentamer (O(5)), decamer (O(10)), and hexadecamer (O(16))) in binary aqueous solutions containing 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM][BF]) ionic liquid (IL). Investigations have been carried out to obtain a microscopic understanding of the effects of the IL on the dynamic environment around the exterior surfaces and within the confined nanocores of the oligomers.

Carbonization (Argon atmosphere, 900 °C, 2 h) of heteroatom-enriched pyridine-bridged inorganic-organic hybrid material (HPHM) resulted in the formation of a high specific surface area (SA of 1080 m g) carbonaceous material designated as HPHMC900. The HPHMC900 serves as an effective electrocatalyst for the reduction of nitrate in an aqueous environment to ammonia (NORR). Importantly, HPHMC900 demonstrated fast kinetics for the NORR with a low Tafel slope of 70 mV decade.

Antibiotics are emerging environmental contaminants posing critical health risks due to their tendency to concentrate in living things and eventually infiltrate the human body. Sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) is among the commonly detected antibiotics in wastewater requiring effective removal approach. A sustainable, thermally stable and easily separable magnetic sporopollenin-cellulose triacetate (Msp-CTA) was developed via a simple step synthesis for eliminating SMZ from aqueous solution.
