Two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskites offer a unique platform for investigating the ground state of materials possessing significant anharmonicity. In contrast to three-dimensional perovskites, their 2D counterparts offer substantially fewer degrees of freedom, resulting in multiple well-defined crystal structures. In this work, we thoroughly investigate the anharmonic ground state of the benchmark (PEA)PbI compound, using complementary information from low-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence spectroscopy, supported by density functional theory calculations. We extrapolate four crystallographic configurations from low-temperature XRD. These configurations imply that the ground state has an intrinsic disorder stemming from two coexisting chiral sublattices, each with a bioriented organic spacer molecule. We further show evidence that these chiral structures form unevenly populated ground states, portraying uneven anharmonicity, where the state population may be tuned by surface effects. Our results uncover a disordered ground state that may induce intrinsic grain boundaries, which cannot be ignored in practical applications.

Background: Large language models (LLMs) provide powerful natural language processing capabilities in medical and clinical tasks. Evaluating LLM performance is crucial due to potential false results. In this study, we assessed ChatGPT and Llama2, two state-of-the-art LLMs, in extracting information from clinical notes, focusing on cognitive tests, specifically the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) and Cognitive Dementia Rating (CDR).

Background: In the United States, approximately 2 million caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia (ADRD) are Latin American. As many of these caregivers are family or friends, most are not equipped with the tools necessary to address common behaviors associated with ADRD. Music-based interventions are an effective and accessible tool to assist caregivers in addressing these persistent behaviors.

Background: Incorporation of the patient voice into drug development has been recognized as fundamental; recent legislation has addressed the importance of collecting patient experience data. Qualitative patient interviews conducted in tandem with clinical trials, often in later phases, are among the most common means of eliciting these data. To assess aspects of patient experience earlier in development, we conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews following participation in the phase 1 ACU-001 (INTERCEPT-AD) trial, a study evaluating the safety and tolerability of the Aβ oligomer-targeting monoclonal antibody ACU193, among a subset of participants with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild Alzheimer's disease (AD) and their study partners.

Background: Nursing home (NH) residents with dementia commonly experience mealtime behaviors that negatively impact nutrition and function. Residents do not receive person-centered mealtime care (PCMC) due to multilevel factors one prioritized modifiable factor is lack of effective PCMC programs. This study aimed to develop a PCMC program and test its feasibility, acceptability, usefulness and preliminary efficacy.

In the United States, spouses provide 17% of in-home care for people living with dementia. Negative impacts of dementia care on spouses/partners are well-documented, but we lack information about the holistic experience for spouses/partners. We conducted a secondary thematic analysis of data from two observational studies about everyday music engagement and dementia care at home.
