Under physiological conditions in peptides or proteins, the -AsnGly- motif autonomously rearranges within hours/days to β-Asp and α-Asp containing sequence, via succinimide intermedier. The formation of the succinimide is the rate-limiting step, with a strong pH and temperature dependence. We found that Arg(+) at the (n + 2) position (relative to Asn in the n position) favors isomerisation by forming a transition-state like structure, whereas Glu(-) disfavors isomerisation by adopting a β-turn like conformer.

Behcet's disease is a rare, chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect various organs, with large vessel involvement being particularly uncommon. This case report discusses a 17-year-old male with Behcet's disease who presented with a rapidly enlarging, painful mass in the right groin region, later diagnosed as a femoral artery aneurysm. The patient underwent successful surgical intervention and was subsequently managed with immunosuppressive therapy to prevent relapse.

Background: Almost 40% of the Nobel-Prize-winning discoveries in medicine are made by physician-scientists, who are a driving force in the evolving medical, academic and research landscape. However, their training has few defined milestones. To be effective clinicians, educators and researchers, they need to maintain and hone skills, often via continuous professional development (CPD) activities covering different domains.

Background: Shared biological factors may play a role in both the cognitive deficits and the increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome observed in individuals with Schizophrenia (SCZ). These factors could entail disturbances in tryptophan (Trp) to both melatonin (MLT) and kynurenine (Kyn) metabolic pathways, as well as inflammation and alterations in the gut microbiome composition.

Methods: The present research project aims to investigate this hypothesis by recruiting 170 SCZ patients from two different recruitment sites, assessing their cognitive functions and screening for the presence of metabolic syndrome.
