Introduction: Wrist-worn accelerometers can capture stepping behavior passively, continuously, and remotely. Methods utilizing peak detection, threshold crossing, and frequency analysis have been used to detect steps from wrist-worn accelerometer data, but it remains unclear how different approaches perform across a range of walking speeds and free-living activities. In this study, we evaluated the performance of four open-source methods for deriving step counts from wrist-worn accelerometry data, when applied to data from a range of structured locomotion and free-living activities.

The purpose of this randomized cross-over controlled trial was to evaluate the biomechanical effects of ankle taping using rigid tape (RT) or kinesiotape (KT) compared to no taping during treadmill running in well-trained amateur runners. : A total of 22 participants (15 men and 7 women) completed three running sessions on a treadmill, each lasting 30 min, under different conditions: no taping (CG), RT, and KT. Sagittal and frontal plane kinematics were analyzed using the Kinovea software to assess the ankle dorsiflexion, knee flexion, hip extension, tibial angle, foot strike pattern, heel eversion, and pelvic drop across three intervals (0-10, 10-20, and 20-30 min).

Article Synopsis
  • Radiotherapy treatment planning is shifting towards more automation, similar to the changes seen in the aviation industry, raising concerns about human roles and risks within these automated systems.
  • A working group at the ESTRO Physics Workshop 2023 suggested a framework based on aviation insights, outlining different levels of automation in radiotherapy and their impact on human involvement.
  • Key risks of this automation include complacency and data overload, which necessitate strategies like checklists and proper training to ensure effective human-automation collaboration while maintaining the critical need for human oversight in complex clinical scenarios.*

Objectives: Patients are increasingly being given direct access to their medical records. However, radiology reports are written for clinicians and typically contain medical jargon, which can be confusing. One solution is for radiologists to provide a "colloquial" version that is accessible to the layperson.

Many-objective optimization (MaO) is an important aspect of engineering scenarios. In many-objective optimization algorithms (MaOAs), a key challenge is to strike a balance between diversity and convergence. MaOAs employs various tactics to either enhance selection pressure for better convergence and/or implements additional measures for sustaining diversity.
