In this Letter, a polymer optical fiber (POF) detector with a convex spherical aperture microstructure probe is designed for low-energy and low-dose rate gamma-ray detection. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that this structure has a higher optical coupling efficiency and that the angular coherence of the detector depends strongly on the depth of the probe micro-aperture. By modeling the relationship between angular coherence and micro-aperture depth, the optimal depth of the micro-aperture is determined. The sensitivity of the fabricated POF detector is 701 cps at 59.5-keV gamma-ray of 2.78 µSv/h and the maximum percentage error of the average count rate at different angles is 5.16%.

Lithium (Li) metal anodes hold great promise for next-generation secondary batteries with high energy density. Unfortunately, several problems such as Li dendrite growth, low Coulombic efficiency and poor cycle life hinder the commercialization of Li metal anodes. Herein, we design a highly lithiophilic carbon cloth host modified with Sn-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) (ZnSn-CC) directly derived from a bimetallic ZnSn metal-organic framework (ZnSn-MOF), which boosts uniform Li plating/stripping during charge-discharge and effectively protects the Li metal anode.

Wastewater is commonly contaminated with many pharmaceutical pollutants, so an efficient purification method is required for their removal from wastewater. In this regard, an innovative tertiary Se/SnO@CMC/Fe-GA nanocomposite was synthesized through encapsulation of metal organic frameworks (Fe-glutaric acid) onto Se/SnO-embedded-sodium carboxy methyl cellulose matrix to thoroughly evaluate its effectiveness for adsorption of levofloxacin drug from wastewater. The prepared Se/SnO@CMC/Fe-GA nanocomposite was analyzed via UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to valuate optical property, size, morphology, thermal stability, and chemical composition.

The choices of matrices and protocols for sample deposition are critical factors, which impact each other in the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). Previous reports on MALDI MS matrices have only compared their performances in terms of their MS signal intensities and provided optical microphotos or MALDI MS images of sample spots but typically lacked quantitative evaluation. Purpose: Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a complication of retinal detachment which requires multiple vitreoretinal surgical interventions and frequent use of oil endotamponade. In this study, we conducted an in-depth analysis of complications associated with the use of heavy silicone oil in the management of inferior PVR.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 20 eyes that underwent vitrectomy for inferior PVR with use of heavy silicone oil (Densiron 68) between March 2021 and October 2022 at Oxford Eye Hospital.
