We experimentally demonstrate a hybrid mode division multiplexer (MDM) based on asymmetric directional couplers (ADCs) without transition tapers in between. The proposed MDM can couple five fundamental modes from access waveguides into the bus waveguide as the hybrid modes (TE, TE, TE, TM, and TM). To eliminate the transition tapers between cascaded ADCs as well as to enable arbitrary add-drop to the bus waveguide, we maintain the bus waveguide width to be the same, while a partially etched subwavelength grating is introduced to reduce the effective refractive index of the bus waveguide. The experimental results demonstrate a working bandwidth of up to 140 nm.

Quantum teleportation is of both fundamental interest and great practical importance in quantum information science. To date, quantum teleportation has been implemented in various physical systems, among which superconducting qubits are of particular practical significance as they emerge as a leading system to realize large-scale quantum computation. Nevertheless, scaling up the number of superconducting qubits on a single chip becomes increasing challenging because of some emergent technical difficulties.

On-chip polarization entanglement generation thus constitutes one enabling component for integrated quantum photonic circuits. Here, we present to our knowledge the first polarization-entangled photon pair sources in a silicon nitride platform for integrated quantum photonic circuits.

With a single-sided conical fiber taper, we demonstrate efficient coupling to an on-chip nanophotonic bus waveguide immersed in a liquid. In the aim of coupling light into a target whispering gallery disk resonator, we then replace such on-chip nanophotonic bus waveguide with two conical fibers joined face to face.

This paper introduces a new sensing approach utilizing a solid-solid phononic crystal (PnC) channel drop filter structure for the detection of varying molar fractions of Ethyl lactate within a mixture of Ethyl lactate and 2-butoxy ethanol. The sensor features a two-dimensional PnC constructed from poly methyl methacrylate as the background material, incorporating a regular arrangement of circular Tungsten columns. The design integrates a bus waveguide linked to two interconnected ring resonators, which are coupled to a drop waveguide.
