Objectives: We performed a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis to assess the association of total sugars, added sugars, fructose, and sucrose with all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer mortality.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for prospective cohort studies up to May 10, 2022. Pooled relative risks and 95% CIs were calculated by random effect models, and the linear and non-linear dose-response associations were explored by restricted cubic splines.

Results: Comparing the highest with the lowest categories of total sugars, the summary RR was 1.09 (95% CI, 1.02-1.15; I = 71.9%) for all-cause mortality, 1.10 (1.02-1.18; I = 12.7%) for CVD mortality, and 1.00 (0.94-1.05; I = 0) for cancer mortality. For fructose, the summary relative risk was 1.09 (1.03-1.16; I = 58.4%) for all-cause mortality, 1.11 (1.03-1.20; I = 37.4%) for CVD mortality, and 1.00 (0.95-1.06; I = 0) for cancer mortality. Restricted cubic splines found non-linear associations of total sugars and fructose with all-cause and CVD mortality (P for non-linearity < 0.001). A significant increment in risk of all-cause and CVD mortality was observed with >10% energy intake to 20% energy intake for total sugars and fructose. No association was found for the added sugars and sucrose with all-cause, CVD, and cancer mortality.

Conclusions: Increased intake of total sugars and fructose is associated with all-cause and CVD mortality but not associated with cancer mortality, which could have implications for guideline recommendations regarding the risk of mortality related to sugar intake.

With the global rise in advanced maternal age (AMA) pregnancies, the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) increases. However, few GDM prediction models are tailored for AMA women. This study aims to develop a practical risk prediction model for GDM in AMA women.

Freeze drying is one of the common methods to extend the long-term stability of biologicals. Biological products in solid form have the advantages of convenient transportation and stable long-term storage. However, long reconstitution time and extensive visible bubbles are frequently generated during the reconstitution process for many freeze-dried protein formulations, which can potentially affect the management efficiency of staff, patient compliance, and product quality.

This study examined the relationship between gallstones and estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) in people in the United States and the possible mediating function of body mass index (BMI). Data came from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), conducted between 2017 and March 2020. Logistic regression, subgroup analysis, smoothed curve fitting, and causal mediation studies were among the statistical techniques used to examine the participant data.

Background: Knowledge about the diet quality among youth who follow different types of plant-based diets is essential to understand whether support is required to ensure a well-planned diet that meets their nutritional needs. This study aimed to investigate how food groups, macronutrient intake, and objective blood measures varied between Norwegian youth following different plant-based diets compared to omnivorous diet.

Methods: Cross-sectional design, with healthy 16-to-24-year-olds (n = 165) recruited from the Agder area in Norway, following a vegan, lacto-ovo-vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian or omnivore diet.
