Cell centers their division apparatus to ensure symmetric cell division, a challenging task when the governing dynamics is stochastic. Using fission yeast, we show that the patterning of nonequilibrium polymerization forces of microtubule (MT) bundles the precise localization of spindle pole body (SPB), and hence the division septum, at the onset of mitosis. We define two cellular objectives, , the mean SPB position relative to the geometric center, and , the variance of the SPB position, which are sensitive to genetic perturbations that change cell length, MT bundle number/orientation, and MT dynamics. We show that simultaneous control of reliability and robustness is required to minimize septum positioning error achieved by the wild type (WT). A stochastic model for the MT-based nucleus centering, with parameters measured directly or estimated using Bayesian inference, recapitulates the maximum fidelity of WT. Using this, we perform a sensitivity analysis of the parameters that control nuclear centering.

A dispersed cytoplasmic distribution of mitochondria is a hallmark of normal cellular organization. Here, we have utilized the expression of exogenous in mouse oocytes and embryos to disrupt the dispersed distribution of mitochondria by driving them into a large cytoplasmic aggregate. Our findings reveal that aggregated mitochondria have minimal impact on asymmetric meiotic cell divisions of the oocyte.

Thyroid cancer, a common endocrine malignancy, is one of the leading death causes among endocrine tumors. The diagnosis of pathological section analysis suffers from diagnostic delay and cumbersome operating procedures. Therefore, we intend to construct the models based on spectral data that can be potentially used for rapid intraoperative papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) diagnosis and characterize PTC characteristics.

Purpose: This study tested the hypotheses that (a) motor speech activities are temporally organized around the nuclei into vowel-centric units that hold both stability and flexibility and (b) such temporal organization is impacted by motor speech impairment.
Method: Thirteen individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and 10 healthy controls read a sentence 3 times at each of the following rates: habitual, fast, and slow. Articulatory gestures and phonatory event were assessed in two vowel-centric units, as operationally defined within and across the boundaries of two target words- and -to accommodate common coda omission and coarticulation.

The emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria has led to the investigation of alternative treatments, such as phage therapy. In this study, we examined the interactions between the nucleus-forming jumbo phage ФKZ and antibiotic treatment against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Using the fluorescence microscopy technique of bacterial cytological profiling, we identified mechanism-of-action-specific interactions between antibiotics that target different biosynthetic pathways and ФKZ infection.
