A complete and well-preserved forewing assigned to the orthopteran insect Parahagla cheni Xu, Fang and Zhang, 2023 is described from the Lower Jurassic Badaowan Formation of the northwestern Junggar Basin (Karamay, Xinjiang, northwestern China), based on which the species is diagnostically revised. It represents the earliest record of the subfamily Chifengiinae under the family Prophalangopsidae. The subfamily Chifengiinae is reviewed and a key to its genera and species is provided in the discussion. A further discuss of the palaeobiogeographic distribution of Chifengiinae shows that the subfamily probably first appeared in the Palaeoarctic in the earliest Jurassic, and later quickly migrated and occupied most areas of eastern Palaeoarctic from the Middle Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous.

Pore structure heterogeneity affects sandstone porosity and permeability and thus sandstone gas productivity. A total of 17 sandstone samples collected from the northwestern margin of the Junggar Basin in Xinjiang Province are investigated in this study. In the investigation of stratigraphic reservoirs, a significant discrepancy frequently exists between the delineation of the formation pinch-out line as traced using the characteristics of seismic wave reflections and the actual location of the formation pinch-out line. This has been the main problem restricting further hydrocarbon exploration and development. In this study, Hala'alate Mountain on the northwestern margin of the Junggar Basin is taken as an example for carrying out the study of stratigraphic reservoirs by integrating logging, drilling, and 3D seismic data.
