Cell-free systems: A synthetic biology tool for rapid prototyping in metabolic engineering.

Biotechnol Adv

January 2025

Division of Interdisciplinary Bioscience and Bioengineering, Pohang University of Science and Technology, 77 Cheongam-Ro, Nam-Gu, Pohang, Gyeongbuk 37673, Republic of Korea; Department of Chemical Engineering, Pohang University of Science and Technology, 77 Cheongam-Ro, Nam-Gu, Pohang, Gyeongbuk 37673, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Microbial cell factories provide sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based chemical production using cost-effective substrates. A deep understanding of their metabolism is essential to harness their potential along with continuous efforts to improve productivity and yield. However, the construction and evaluation of numerous genetic variants are time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Background: Anesthesia depth influences seizure quality in patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). EEG-based neuromonitoring has been shown to detect adequate anesthesia depth for ECT. Anesthesia depth-guided ECT management may therefore be a reliable alternative to the predetermined anesthesia-to-stimulation time interval.

Common and distinct ERP responses to violations of two different types of politeness maxims during sentence comprehension.

Brain Lang

January 2025

School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100871 China; Beijing Key Laboratory of Behavior and Mental Health and Key Laboratory of Machine Perception (Ministry of Education), Peking University, Beijing 100871 China. Electronic address:

An ERP experiment was conducted to investigate the common and distinct neurocognitive mechanisms underlying the on-line processing of two types of politeness maxims (self-depreciation and other-elevation) and the individual differences during sentence reading. Electroencephalograms were recorded while participants read sentences containing pragmatically appropriate or inappropriate honorific or humble terms. When collapsing all participants' data, inappropriate humble and honorific terms elicited N400 and P600 effects, respectively, which could reflect semantic processing costs and rechecking processes, respectively.

A Reading Range- and Frequency-Reconfigurable Antenna for Near-Field and Far-Field UHF RFID Applications.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Manchester, Manchester M13 9PL, UK.

In radio frequency identification (RFID), differences in spectrum policies and tag misreading in different countries are the two main issues that limit its application. To solve these problems, this article proposes a composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL)-based reconfigurable antenna for ultra-high frequency near-field and far-field RFID reader applications. The CRLH-TL is achieved using a periodically capacitive gap-loaded parallel plate line.

Current teleoperated robotic systems for retinal surgery cannot effectively control subtle tool-to-tissue interaction forces. This limitation may lead to patient injury caused by the surgeon's mistakes. To improve the safety of retinal surgery, this paper proposes a haptic shared control framework for teleoperation based on a force-constrained supervisory controller.
