We report on sub-50 fs pulse generation from a passively mode-locked Yb:SrF laser pumped with a spatially single-mode, fiber-coupled laser diode at 976 nm. In the continuous-wave regime, the Yb:SrF laser generated a maximum output power of 704 mW at 1048 nm with a threshold of 64 mW and a slope efficiency of 77.2%. A continuous wavelength tuning across 89 nm (1006 - 1095 nm) was achieved with a Lyot filter. By implementing a SEmiconductor Saturable Absorber Mirror (SESAM) for initiating and sustaining the mode-locked operation, soliton pulses as short as 49 fs were generated at 1057 nm with an average output power of 117 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼75.9 MHz. The maximum average output power of the mode-locked Yb:SrF laser was scaled up to 313 mW for slightly longer pulses of 70 fs at 1049.4 nm, corresponding to a peak power of 51.9 kW and an optical efficiency of 34.7%.

Potassium (K)-based batteries hold great promise for cryogenic applications owing to the small Stokes radius and weak Lewis acidity of K. Nevertheless, energy-dense (>200 W h kg) K batteries under subzero conditions have seldom been reported. Here, an over 400 W h kg K battery is realized at -40 °C via an anode-free and dual-ion strategy, surpassing these state-of-the-art K batteries and even most Li/Na batteries at low temperatures (LTs).

ConspectusPhotochemical reactions have always been the source of a great deal of mystery. While classified as a type of chemical reaction, no doubts are allowed that the general tenets of ground-state chemistry do not directly apply to photochemical reactions. For a typical chemical reaction, understanding the critical points of the ground-state potential (free) energy surface and embedding them in a thermodynamics framework is often enough to infer reaction yields or characteristic time scales.

Biobased poly(ethylene furanoate) (PEF)/poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) block copolymers have been synthesized using ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) in the presence of PEF in different mass ratios. An increase in intrinsic viscosity is observed for the block copolymers with higher ε-CL content due to the extension of their macromolecular chain. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MS) was employed to understand the composition and structure of the produced block copolymers.

Objectives: Mal-deployment of the thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) stent graft during a frozen elephant trunk (FET) procedure for an acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) leads to devastating complications. We report a hemiarch replacement with TEVAR stent graft covering the aortic arch vessels salvaged through an endovascular approach.
Methods: A 69-year-old man with ATAAD in 2018, status post-hemiarch repair with TEVAR, presented in 2023 with progressive dizziness/syncope and lower extremity hypertension with inability to tolerate anti-hypertensives.

Purpose Of Review: This review highlights new Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved glaucoma treatments to familiarize providers with immediately available options.
Recent Findings: New FDA-approved treatments include the bimatoprost implant, travoprost implant, direct selective laser trabeculoplasty (DSLT), and ocular pressure adjusting pump. The bimatoprost implant is approved for a single administration with effects lasting for about 1 year, as opposed to the nearly 3-year effect for the travoprost implant.
