To our knowledge, we report on the first demonstration of Type A VBGs inscribed in silver-containing phosphate glasses by femtosecond laser writing. The gratings are inscribed plane-by-plane by scanning the voxel of a 1030 nm Gaussian-Bessel inscription beam. This results in a refractive-index modification zone, induced by the appearance of silver clusters, extending over a much larger depth than those obtained with standard Gaussian beams. As a result, a high diffraction efficiency of 95% at 632.8 nm is demonstrated for a 2-µm period transmission grating with a 150-µm effective thickness indicating a strong refractive-index modulation of 1.78 × 10. Meanwhile, a refractive-index modulation of 1.37 × 10 was observed at a wavelength of 1.55 µm. Thus, this work opens the avenue for highly effective femtosecond-written VBGs suitable for industrial applications.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to examine recent advances in the understanding of injury-induced endotheliopathy and therapeutics to mitigate its development in critically injured patients.

Recent Findings: Clinical studies have clearly demonstrated that syndecan-1 ectodomains can be found in circulation after various types of trauma and injury and correlates with worse outcomes. As the mechanisms of endotheliopathy are better understood, pathologic hyperadhesive forms of von Willebrand factor, along with a relative deficiency of its cleaving enzyme, a disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type I motifs, member 13 (ADAMTS13), have emerged as additional biomarkers.

This study aimed to standardize qPCR techniques using these molecular markers kDNA and 18S rDNA across three sample types: peripheral blood, guanidine-treated blood, and tissue. The secondary objective is to evaluate the performance of 18S rDNA target in samples from 46 patients with confirmed tegumentary leishmaniasis. After obtaining the standard curve from reference strains with Leishmania, qPCR curves were standardizations and the Cts results of the patient samples were described using abstract measures.
