Introduction: The association of age at stroke onset with dementia and the role of post-stroke lifestyle on dementia risk remains unclear.
Methods: We leveraged data of 496,251 dementia-free participants from UK Biobank and explored the relationship between age at stroke onset and incident dementia. Among 8328 participants with stroke history, we further investigated the association of a healthy lifestyle with risk of dementia.
Results: Participants with stroke history had a higher risk of dementia (hazard ratio [HR], 2.02). The association was stronger among participants with stroke onset at a younger age (≤50: HR, 2.63) compared with those at the age > 50 years (50-60: HR, 2.17; ≥60: HR, 1.58). Among participants with stroke history, a favorable lifestyle was associated with a lower risk of incident dementia.
Discussion: Stroke onset in earlier life stage predicted a higher risk for dementia, but a favorable post-stroke lifestyle may protect against dementia.

Background: Stroke has emerged as an escalating public health challenge among middle-aged and older individuals in China, closely linked to glycolipid metabolic abnormalities. The Hemoglobin A1c/High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HbA1c/HDL-C) ratio, an integrated marker of glycolipid homeostasis, may serve as a novel predictor of stroke risk.
Methods: Our investigation utilized data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study cohort (2011-2018).

Background: Cognitive decline is a significant concern for stroke survivors, affecting their quality of life and increasing their burden on the healthcare system. DL-3-n-butylphthalide (butylphthalide) has shown efficacy in the short-term treatment of various cognitive impairments. This study evaluated the efficacy of butylphthalide in preventing cognitive decline over a 12-month period in patients with ischaemic stroke.

Objective: High D-dimer levels may increase the likelihood of unfavorable clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke. However, the impacts of serum D-dimer levels on outcomes of reperfusion treatment in patients with acute ischemic stroke have not been evaluated. This study aims to assess a possible relationship between serum D-dimer and functional outcomes in stroke patients with endovascular treatment (EVT).

Autosomal dominant mutations in the gene encoding the DNA and RNA binding protein FUS are a cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and about 0·3-0·9% of patients with ALS are FUS mutation carriers. FUS-mutation-associated ALS (FUS-ALS) is characterised by early onset and rapid progression, compared with other forms of ALS. However, different pathogenic mutations in FUS can result in markedly different age at symptom onset and rate of disease progression.

Delirium is an acute neuropsychiatric syndrome that recognizes one or more underlying causal medical conditions. Stress hyperglycemia usually refers to transient hyperglycemia associated with stress conditions such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and major surgery. Both delirium and stress hyperglycemia share common pathways, such as activation of inflammation.
