Complex oxide heterointerfaces contain a rich playground of novel physical properties and functionalities, which give rise to emerging technologies. Among designing and controlling the functional properties of complex oxide film heterostructures, vertically aligned nanostructure (VAN) films using a self-assembling bottom-up deposition method presents great promise in terms of structural flexibility and property tunability. Here, the bottom-up self-assembly is extended to a new approach using a mixture containing a 2Dlayer-by-layer film growth, followed by a 3D VAN film growth. In this work, the two-phase nanocomposite thin films are based on LaAlO :LaBO , grown on a lattice-mismatched SrTiO (001) single crystal. The 2D-to-3D transient structural assembly is primarily controlled by the composition ratio, leading to the coexistence of multiple interfacial properties, 2D electron gas, and magnetic anisotropy. This approach provides multidimensional film heterostructures which enrich the emergent phenomena for multifunctional applications.

The oxidation of 5-HMF to HMFCA is an important yet complex process, as it generates high-value chemical intermediates. Achieving this transformation efficiently requires the development of non-precious, highly active catalysts derived from renewable biomass sources. In this work, we introduce UoM-1 (UoM, University of Mazandaran), a novel cobalt-based metal-organic framework (Co-MOF) synthesized using a simple one-step ultrasonic irradiation method.

Studies of in situ plant response and adaptation to complex environmental stresses, are crucial for understanding the mechanisms of formation and functioning of ecosystems of anthropogenically transformed habitats. We study short- and long-term responses of photosynthetic apparatus (PSA) and anti-oxidant capacity to complex abiotic stresses of common plants Calamagrostis epigejos and Solidago gigantea in semi-natural (C) and heavy metal contaminated habitats (LZ). We found significant differences in leaf pigment content between both plant species growing on LZ plots and their respective C populations.

Spermatogenesis and sperm maturation are complex biological processes that involve intricate cellular and molecular interactions. The Aldh2 gene is involved in the metabolism of specific aldehydes generated by oxidative stress. Aldh2 is abundantly expressed in the testis and epididymis; however, the specific role of Aldh2 in regulating spermatogenesis and sperm maturation remains unclear.

Heavy metals released from metallic sulfidic tailings pose significant environmental threats by contaminating surface and groundwater in mining areas. Sustainable rehabilitation methods are essential to remove or stabilize these metals, improving the quality of acid mine drainage and minimizing pollution. This study examines the adsorption capacity of zinc ions (Zn) by different iron-silicate mineral groups under natural weathering and bacteria-regulated weathered conditions.

Krill oil (KO) exhibits several biological actions, particularly providing distinct advantages for cognitive health in the aged. Nonetheless, its inadequate water solubility, pronounced flavor, and vulnerability to oxidative degradation restrict its utilization in the food sector. Encapsulation provides a solution, and the study of natural, suitable wall materials is crucial.
