Aim: Diverting ileostomy (DS) after restorative proctocolectomy (RPC) can be omitted in selected patients. Its omission could improve functional outcomes and quality of life (QoL), as has been demonstrated in patients after proctectomy. The aim of this study was to report the impact of diverting ileostomy on functional outcomes and QoL after ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA).

Purpose: Accurate prediction of hernia occurrence is vital for surgical decision-making and patient management, particularly in colorectal surgery patients. While a hernia prediction model has been developed, its performance in external populations remain to be investigated. This study aims to validate the existing model on an external dataset of patients who underwent colorectal surgery.

Background: We investigated the independent clinical value of mechanical bowel preparations (MBP) and chemical bowel preparations (CBP) for preventing surgical site infection (SSI) in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 475 patients who underwent elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery between January 2018 and March 2022. CBP was introduced in January 2021 and included kanamycin (1 g) and metronidazole (1 g) 2 times a day, the day before surgery.
