Aim: Diverting ileostomy (DS) after restorative proctocolectomy (RPC) can be omitted in selected patients. Its omission could improve functional outcomes and quality of life (QoL), as has been demonstrated in patients after proctectomy. Background: We investigated the independent clinical value of mechanical bowel preparations (MBP) and chemical bowel preparations (CBP) for preventing surgical site infection (SSI) in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 475 patients who underwent elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery between January 2018 and March 2022. CBP was introduced in January 2021 and included kanamycin (1 g) and metronidazole (1 g) 2 times a day, the day before surgery.
