In this study, a strategy for the rapid and simple preparation of porous carbon (PC) using the microwave method was proposed. Oxygen-rich PC was synthesized by microwave irradiation in air, where potassium citrate and ZnCl served as the carbon source and microwave absorber, respectively. ZnCl achieves microwave absorption through dipole rotation, which uses ion conduction to convert heat energy in the reaction system. In addition, potassium salt etching improved the porosity of PCs. The PC prepared under optimal conditions had a large specific surface area (902 m·g) and exhibited a significant specific capacitance (380 F·g) in the three-electrode system at 1 A·g. The energy and power densities of the assembled symmetrical supercapacitor device based on PC-375W-0.4 were 32.7 W·h·kg and 0.65 kW·kg, respectively, at a current density of 1 A·g. Even after 5000 cycles at 5 A·g current density, the excellent cycle life retained 94% of its initial capacitance.

This work developed a novel oxidized hierarchical porous carbon (OHPC) with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls via a method of air oxidation and used as an efficient adsorbent for Congo red (CR) and Malachite green (MG) removal. Results show that the OHPC2 oxidized at 400 °C possesses three-dimensional hierarchical pores with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls. The prepared OHPC2 not only has a large specific surface area of 1020 m g with a high pore volume, but also has abundant oxygen-containing functional groups.

Novel functional materials possessing the capability to attenuate electromagnetic energy are being increasingly incorporated into home decor as concerns over excessive electromagnetic radiation pollution continue to grow. The properties of magnetism and dielectricity in the flexible peanut shell/CoFeO/reduced graphene oxide/polyvinyl alcohol (PS/CF/(RGO)/PVA) nanocomposites can be finely tuned by adjusting the amount of RGO in the mixture. An examination of the composite's absorption capabilities revealed a direct link between higher RGO content and enhanced absorption.

Porous carbon adsorption represents a critical component of CCUS technologies, with microporous structures playing an essential role in CO capture. The preparation of porous carbon introduces intrinsic defects, making it essential to consider both pore size and these defects for a comprehensive understanding of the CO adsorption mechanism. This study investigates the mechanisms of CO adsorption influenced by intrinsic defects and pore size using multiscale methods, incorporating experimental validation, Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations, and Density Functional Theory simulations.

Transition-metal-loaded carbon-based electrocatalysts are promising alternatives to conventional precious metal electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in high-performance zinc-air batteries. However, efficiently doping transition-metal single atoms onto carbon-based frameworks is a significant challenge. Herein, an improved template-sacrificing method combining a two-step carbonization process is proposed to fabricate Cu/Co diatomic sites coanchored on a three-dimensional nitrogen-doped carbon-based framework.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) from dilute sources is an important strategy for stabilizing the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide and global temperature. However, the adsorption process is extremely challenging due to the sluggish diffusion rate of dilute CO. Herein, -phthalic acid (PTA)-derived hierarchical porous activated carbon (PTA-C) with abundant micro- and mesopores was successfully prepared for dilute CO (2 vol %) capture at ambient conditions.
