Purpose: To assess the success rate of confirmation of ultrasound-guided intranodal needle positioning by saline injection for dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance lymphangiography (DCMRL) in pediatric patients.

Material And Methods: Data from children undergoing nodal DCMRL after ultrasound-guided needle positioning into inguinal lymph nodes and validation of the needle position by injection of plain saline solution between 05/2020 and 12/2022 were reviewed. On injection of saline solution, adequate needle position was confirmed by lymph node distension without leakage.

Background/aim: Studies on large cross-arch bridges in patients with severe periodontitis show that such bridges can stabilize the periodontal condition. However, it is not known if these bridges will reduce long-term tooth loss and what factors are important for their long-term survival. The aim of the study was to study all patients with Stages III/IV periodontitis who received cross-arch bridges for up 35 years in a private practice.

Article Synopsis
  • Migrasomes are new organelles important for cell signaling and communication that involve the protein TSPAN4, whose role in cancer is not well understood.
  • Researchers studied TSPAN4 across multiple cancer types, examining its expression levels and connections to tumor characteristics using large datasets.
  • Findings indicate TSPAN4 is irregularly expressed in tumors, affecting tumor growth and immune response, particularly in glioma, where it encourages an immunosuppressive environment.

Background: Atrophy and fatty infiltration of the supraspinatus (SS) muscle are prognostic indicators of poor functional outcomes and higher retear rates after rotator cuff repair. While older patients, female patients, and those with massive and retracted rotator cuff tears are at a higher risk for these indicators, it is unclear whether tear characteristics, acromion morphology, and acromioclavicular (AC) joint arthritis affect SS atrophy in older patients with chronic shoulder pain.

Purpose: To investigate the multifactorial influences associated with SS atrophy in rotator cuff tears.

Automatic three-dimensional analysis of posterosuperior full-thickness rotator cuff tear size on MRI.

J Shoulder Elbow Surg

December 2024

School for Biomedical and Precision Engineering, Personalised Medicine Research, University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.

Background: Tear size and shape are known to prognosticate the efficacy of surgical rotator cuff (RC) repair however, current manual measurements on magnetic resonance images (MRI), exhibit high interobserver variabilities and exclude three-dimensional (3D) morphological information. This study aimed to develop algorithms for automatic 3D analyses of posterosuperior full-thickness RC tear to enable efficient and precise tear evaluation and 3D tear visualization.

Methods: - A deep-learning network for automatic segmentation of the tear region in coronal and sagittal multicenter MRI was trained with manually segmented (consensus of 3 experts) pd- and T2 weighted MRI of shoulders with full-thickness posterosuperior tears (n=200).
