Biological Properties of KYS-164 Isolated from Kefir Grains.

J Agric Food Chem

November 2024

College of Food Science and Technology, Northwest University, Xi'an, Shaanxi 710069, China.

KYS-164, isolated from homemade Tibetan kefir grains, produces bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances (BLIS), which are peptides with antimicrobial properties, but have not been fully characterized. The research on BLIS will lay the foundation for mining new bacteriocins. In this study, the optimal culture conditions for the production of highly active BLIS were found to be incubation at 30 °C and 120 rpm, and the most effective extraction method was ammonium sulfate precipitation (ASP) using ammonium sulfate at 80% saturation.

is capable of using light energy and fixing carbon dioxide to synthesize a spectrum of organic substances, including proteins, polysaccharides, and unsaturated fatty acids, making it one of the most coveted food resources for humanity. Conventionally, products are formulated into algal powder tablets or capsules. However, the processing and preparation of these products, involving screw pump feeding, extrusion, high-speed automation, and high-temperature dewatering, often result in the rupture of cell filaments, cell fragmentation, and the unfortunate loss of vital nutrients.

New powder reuse schema in laser-based powder bed fusion of polymers.

Waste Manag

October 2024

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Laser Technologies, Automation and Production Organization, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Wyb. Wyspiańskiego 27, 50-370 Wrocław, Poland.

The laser-based powder bed fusion of polymers (PBF-LB/P) process often utilizes a blend of powders with varying degrees of degradation. Specifically, for polyamide 12, the traditional reuse schema involves mixing post-processed powder with virgin powder at a predetermined ratio before reintroducing it to the process. Given that only about 15% of the powder is utilized in part production, and powders are refreshed in equal proportions, there arises a challenge with the incremental accumulation of material across build cycles.

The aging of the periocular region has always aroused great interest. A fresh, young, and attractive sight determined an ever-greater attention to surgical and non-surgical techniques to obtain this result. In particular, the change in the concept of a young look, considered then "full", led to the increasing use of surgical (fat grafting) or medical (hyaluronic acid) filling techniques.

Background: Platelet storage is complicated by deleterious changes, among which reduction of ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation (RIPA) has a poorly understood mechanism. The study elucidates the mechanistic roles of all the possible players in this process.

Research Design And Methods: PRP-platelet concentrates were subjected to RIPA, collagen-induced platelet aggregation (CIPA), and flowcytometric analysis of GPIbα and PAC-1 binding from days 0 to 5 of storage.
