We demonstrate a self-injection locking (SIL) in an Er-doped random fiber laser by a high quality factor (high-Q) random fiber grating ring (RFGR) resonator, which enables a single-mode narrow-linewidth lasing with ultra-low intensity and frequency noise. The RFGR resonator includes a fiber ring with a random fiber grating to provide random feedback modes and noise suppression filters with self-adjusted peak frequency adaptable to small perturbations allowing single longitudinal mode over 7000 s with frequency jitter below 3.0 kHz. Single-mode operation is accomplished by carefully controlling phase delays and mode coupling of resonant modes between main ring and RFGR with a side-mode suppression ratio of 70 dB and narrow linewidth of 1.23 kHz. The relative intensity noise is -140 dB/Hz above 100 kHz and the frequency noise is 1 Hz/Hz above 10 kHz.

Background: Midfacial aging involves skeletal changes, muscle weakening, and fat redistribution, resulting in volume loss, skin sagging, and deepened nasolabial folds. High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation (HIFES) combined with Radiofrequency (RF) is a novel non-invasive method to address these changes by enhancing muscle mass and remodeling subcutaneous tissue.
Objectives: To assess the efficacy of HIFES and Synchronized RF in improving midfacial aesthetics, specifically muscle thickness, skin displacement, and facial volume.

Randomness is an essential resource and plays important roles in various applications ranging from cryptography to simulation of complex systems. Certified randomness from quantum process is ensured to have the element of privacy but usually relies on the device's behavior. To certify randomness without the characterization for device, it is crucial to realize the one-sided device-independent random number generation based on quantum steering, which guarantees security of randomness and relaxes the demands of one party's device.

Genomic selection can enhance the rate of genetic gain of cane and sucrose yield in sugarcane (Saccharum L.), an important industrial crop worldwide. We assessed the predictive ability (PA) for six traits, such as theoretical recoverable sugar (TRS), number of stalks (NS), stalk weight (SW), cane yield (CY), sugar yield (SY), and fiber content (Fiber) using 20,451 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with 22 statistical models based on the genomic estimated breeding values of 567 genotypes within and across five stages of the Louisiana sugarcane breeding program.

Purpose: To assess neurodegeneration and chorioretinal thickness in subjects with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Embase were searched using proper keywords for articles published in the English language from their inception until January 2024. Publications were included if they reported optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements of retinal or choroidal layers in patients with CKD compared to healthy or non-CKD controls.

Background: Legumes are widely considered one of the most beneficial food groups to consume. They are high in fibre and plant-based protein as well as naturally low in sodium, saturated fats, and sugars. However, legumes do not feature prominently in the modern diet, and previous evidence syntheses show inconsistent results on cardiometabolic risk profile when increasing legume intakes.
